Type 1s on mdi using a pen - how would you treat a before meal hypo? When would you inject for the meal?

Are you treating the hypo before the meal, or just going straight to the meal to treat the hypo? If the latter I'd probably bolus after the meal (or at least wait till I'm no longer hypo). I'd probably do the same if the former as well, because I wouldn't want to inject while my bg was low.

Suggest treating the hypo with glucose tablets ... predictable results which are not dependent on digestion.

If you had a hypo < 3.5 mmol/l then I would treat it with fast-acting glucose and wait for my blood sugars to return to normal before injecting and eating.

Always treat the hypo first, forget dinner until you have got your levels up above 4, then eat your dinner and take your insulin for your meal.

You can't delay hypo treatment and if you're eating fat in your dinner then that will delay the absorption of carbs so it's best to use a fast acting hypo treatment.

Depends how hypo if the meal was under my nose and ready to eat. Also what type of carbs are in meal.

4 jelly babies to play safe if its evening out with friends and you want to communicate whilst eating.

When my level is back up above 4 can I then enter the full carb amount of my meal into my mysugr bolus advisor then inject and eat as normal?

I would take the full amount for the meal, it’s best to treat the hypo and carry on as normal with carbs, just take care though following the hypo as levels can dip if the liver is restocking glucose stores so test every hour afterwards just to keep an eye on levels.

I know you should treat the hypo first with fast acting carbs but should you test after 15 minutes then when levels are back above 4 inject for the full amount of carbs in your meal and have your meal or
skip testing after 15 minutes and have your meal then test after the meal and inject for the full amount of carbs in the meal?

I have had this, it depends what the meal is, I eat low carb and low GI so I would treat the hypo with jelly babies or juice (I sometimes don’t want to eat jelly babies just before dinner). Then eat dinner, then inject for the meal.
When I have treated the hypo, injected for dinner, eaten dinner sometimes I am having another hypo after dinner as the insulin has kicked in quicker than the food.
If I ate something for dinner containing fast acting carbs I might inject first and eat straight away.
So really depends how quick your insulin is going to kick in (I am on Fiasp) and what you are eating ( how quick is the food going to raise your BG) All about timing getting this right and you will start to know how you react.
