High blood Sugars and what to do

Oh hello. I grew up in Kendray, and still have family in the area. There are a lot of type 2's here controlling Blood Glucose with diet - what sort of thing are you eating? Is diet the only control you have, or are you on medication?

    GI and carbs

My problem is that I see no difference in the rate of anything. The GI of a food can be high or low, I just digest it and react to that number of carbs with a spike apparently the same as for a low or high GI food. I don't have access to continuous monitoring of course, so there might be a...

    GI and carbs

I found GI meaningless. If a food contains X amount of carbs then I can extract that amount or sometimes more if it is a pea or bean. Carbohydrate content is normally accurate though. I stick to foods with under 11% carb content but I just looked them up on various websites and made a list in a...

    Ice Cream

I have made my own ice cream several times and find it rather better than anything I could buy. I have used a heavy iron griddle left in the freezer overnight, then placed on a towel and the ingredients for the icecream mixed in a metal bowl after cooling them and the bowl in the freezer for a...

    Question on lightheadedness

I'm having that problem at the moment - doing a bit of work out of the house and now I have to do some more to fund the reduction in waist size - though maybe I should just buy some snazzy braces.

    very confused

You are only just in the diabetes range - quite honestly, a couple of small alterations could get you back into normal numbers quite quickly. Type 2's can't cope with carbohydrate, they are the starches and sugars in our diet. I was way into higher numbers but have reversed things by stopping...

    Pre-diabetic

I keep coming across research which indicates that having low cholesterol is associated with a shorter life - saw something about a new survey showing the same thing in the last day or so. As age at death is rather set in stone I really do suspect that there is something other than cholesterol...

    Almost 6 years now

I just turned up some old papers and found some print outs from my GP given to me some time back. Having read them with fresh eyes, I note that my blood tests done in early 2003 and 2005 show elevated blood glucose levels. I don't have any earlier tests but I know they were done as these were...

    Diabetic blister?

Yes - urgent attention and please watch out for even the slightest damage to her feet particularly opening up the blisters. Try to avoid inactivity though - don't let the circulation of blood slow down as that is needed for healing. Difficult situation I know, and I wish you well in managing it...

    False hypos

You might - possibly - have been dehydrated. If it happens again try taking a drink of water and see if the symptoms reduce. With your glucose levels actually being a bit high, your kidneys might be working to get rid of it, calling for extra water to protect themselves from damage.

    Should a t1d follow a low carb diet ?

As people eat a low carb diet in order to swap to being in ketosis, I think it is not really something to be concerned about. I ate a low carb diet when I could get away with it long before I was diagnosed, as it was a way of eating my family tended to follow when I was growing up and I never...

    Just frustrated really

If you are indeed LADA then low carb will eventually no longer work and you will see higher numbers as your normal levels, so perhaps pointing out that you have a family history of LADA and your low carb diet is only just keeping you in normal numbers would be the way to state your case...

What was your highest HBA1C reading ?

I don't include any grains, don't eat potatoes. I never even think about fibre. I do eat some plants to get the no more than 40 gm of carbs a day.

    T2

Oh dear. What dreadful things to tell you.. Honestly what on earth can that sort of thinking be doing to patients? Seriously - diabetes is an inability to deal with carbohydrates. They are the sugars and starches and a modern diet is crammed with them. They are considered healthy. An ordinary...

    Almost 6 years now

Ever since the start of 2017 I have managed my type 2 diabetes by eating low carb, at first with a limit of 50gm of carbs a day and now no more than 40. I used to eat twice a day and now it is often only once, but it seems to be good for me, I feel well, and recently I have been checking my BG...

T2D recent diagnosis and effectiveness of meds?

I just had to give up of tablets, they affected me very badly. When I stopped taking them - to save my life, I found that 50gm a day max is really effective in getting back to normal numbers. I now do less than 40gm a day and have done a few tests recently. It seems that my BG stays under...

    Im Rubbish bt2

You could perhaps be short of something essential and the 'eat everything' impulse is a ploy to try to get whatever it is. I find that my control is better now I am consciously adding more salt to my diet. I have eaten far fewer berries than had become normal, fewer veges more eggs, meat and...

    Insulin resistance and skin tags

My GP cut off many dozens of skin tags and never mentioned high glucose or diabetes and that was 25 years ago. I used to need factor 50 sunscreen, going out in the sun was painful and I never got a tan, it was just my freckles joining up. My family have a Viking ancestry, dad and brother...

    12 hour fast

I was eating at about 12 hourly intervals, but did not time it to the minute - or even the hour, I just ate in the morning then in the evening, sometimes early sometimes late. Now I am often only eating once a day as I get to this time, half past 2 in the afternoon and realise that I have not...

    New joiner

After years of GP advised diet, low fat high carb, my heart used to try to escape if I climbed stairs or had to do anything even slightly strenuous. Five years of low carb and some very naughty fats and my heart is quietly content and my pulse is back to normal.
