Genital Itching/Stinging Pubic Area (External Not Internal)

One of the symptoms I had before I was diagnosed was itching. All the time. There was no obvious fungal infection (not a classic thrush) but as soon as my BG was in normal range it was gone and only returned once when I miscalculated my carbs and ran high overnight. And when I say it was gone...

    Type 1 Blood glucose testing

UK? That's absolutely not enough for type 1. I need to check twice a day if I even think about driving a return journey which would use your supply up alone in less than a month. As far as I was told by my DSN, test before meals, before bed, before and after exercise and before driving. Once I...

DVLA regs for insulin treated diabetes

Fantastic. That's all I wanted but the link I managed to get to (in just Appendix D) didn't work. Shame the DVLA weren't more helpful. But that's why this forum is so great :-) Thank you!

DVLA regs for insulin treated diabetes

Hi, I have tried accessing the DVLA guidance 'A guide to insulin treated diabetes and driving' on the .gov website but the link is missing/broken (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/current-medical-guidelines-dvla-guidance-for-professionals-conditions-d-to-f) The DVLA won't give me a straight answer...

    Bolus Insulin

I carb count and yes, if I want a pudding, second helpings, etc that contain extra carbs from what I originally injected for then I just inject a little extra depending on how many carbs it is. One of the first questions I asked my dietician...'but what about seconds?'

    Dexcom G5 on Android

Hi @cz_dave I use the G5 and a Samsung galaxy s5. The CGM in the cloud and xDrip G5 facebook groups are really useful for advice (I'm very new to my G5, only had it on for 15 days). I use xDrip+ rather than the official Dexcom app as you can get about 100 more days or so from the transmitter...

    Disposing of Sharps Bins

My doctors will only collect sharps bins they prescribe. As I get my prescriptions free, I get them to prescribe them and drop them off at reception when full. Not too much of a bother. Would your hospital diabetes team be able to help with your full ones in the meantime? If not, maybe get a...

Insulin pen and blood glucose monitor case

On the Frio website they do mini sharps boxes. I got a pack of 3 black ones. I just shake the sharps out into my big sharps tub at home if it starts getting full (because I don't want to keep buying them). They fit in my BG case no problem or handbag pouch and are discreet.

    Type 1 Blurred vision

Hi @Bennett1211, I had similar. I usually wear glasses or contact lenses for shortsightedness. About 5 days after diagnosis my vision had corrected to the best vision I've had in 20 years. No glasses needed. Then after another 5 days I was long sighted. I could see my TV but couldn't read. It...

    Newly diagnosed type 1

Hi Martin! Yes, it's a bit trial and error in the beginning. I was diagnosed in Feb aged 30. So many things can affect BG even if you think you have it bang on. Exercise, as I have found out, makes my BG drop unless I reduce my bolus insulin before and after and drink a little bit of sugary...

    Type 1 Help

I'd still give it time. With 100g carbs to digest and keep BG fluctuation under control from that it may just take a bit more time. I think novorapid can last up to 4-5 hours. I once was too quick to assume it hadn't worked, ended up over correcting and going too low. Then ended up high again...

Exercise, insulin adjustments and avoiding hypo/hyper

I'm getting conflicting information from my diabetes team in relation to exercise. My DSN has suggested it's hit and miss whether I go hypo or not whilst the consultant says if the formula is right there is no reason I should ever go hypo. He mentioned a study looking at Type 1s cycling across...

    Type 1 Easter...

I typically don't test after meals but I believe as long as it's under 10mmol after a couple of hours that's meant to be OK. Depends what you snack on. I'm enjoying babybel and various nuts. No carbs but fatty so be careful because there are still calories. But if I snacked on toast or pastry or...

    Type 1 Easter...

Hi @Hollieo4 I'm 30, my type 1 just came out the blue. Not hereditary, not related to pregnancy, just a shock. I too was obsessed by food and starving for the first 3 weeks. Its normal but part of your body healing apparently. My dietician decided the carb ratio, it's their most basic formula...

    Type 1 Easter...

I indulge and I'm only 7 weeks onto being type 1. I spent the first 4 days at home utterly miserable because I had no idea what I could and could not eat. And my boyfriend was miserable because he was trying to do it with me too. And we were starving. The worst diet ever. I had my review with...

    G5 sensor acclimatisation

Just inserted my first G5 sensor. From what I gather, leaving it for a bit tends to get more settled results once its started up. How long should I leave it to settle in before I activate it? A couple of hours? Or would overnight be better? Thanks! K x

Things to ask at my first consultant appointment

I'm seeing my consultant for the first time tomorrow, just over 6 weeks after diagnosis at 30yrs old. On MDI novorapid and lantus. I have some small questions for him, but for those of you who've been through this, is there anything I definitely should be asking now? Or something that you didn't...

    Newly Diagnosed Type 1

Agree with this. I'm seeing my consultant for the first time tomorrow, over 6 weeks since I was diagnosed. I've seen the DSN and dietician in the interim, and GP a couple of times for prescriptions/fit notes/flu jabs in meantime and they were happy to safety net if I heard nothing from the...

    Travelling

Just wondering, do all my medical supplies need to fit into my existing cabin baggage allowance or are you generally permitted to take an extra bag(obviously smaller) specifically for pens/needles/sharps box etc? Never usually travel with huge cabin bag anyway, it's normally a rucksack. But if...

Type 1 I injected the wrong insulin

And when did you last have the novorapid before the accidental dose? If within 3-5 hours that may still be having an effect still, so you'll need to eat more carbs again to cover that.
