    Gastric band

Last Saturday I had a gastric band fitted privately because I was unable (after years of trying) to lose weight or to get my blood glucose readings down to below about 7. Low carbing simply didn't work for me - I was unable to fast for any length of time due to the horrendous migraines that...

    \\\bg drops after eating

I am hoping that someone can explain to me why my bg readings are lower if I test soon after eating - e.g. within half an hour. I understand that we should test 2 hours after eating when I find that they have risen as expected - what mechanism causes the drop? p.s. - after 6 years with type 2...

    Slimming World

I am being pressed to join Slimming World with friends who already attend because they say that there is a new diet especially for type 2 diabetics that has been designed in conjunction with Diabetes UK! Has anyone experienced this diet? I left Slimming World when they abolished the Original...

My BG won't come down enough - Type 2

I too have been unable to get my blood glucose down by low carbing - always around 8 first thing in the morning. Also, the Atkins Induction diet (less than 20g carb a day and lots of fat) caused me to gain weight - I have been following the diet for several months. I have come to the conclusion...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I never seem to get mine below 8 - and I have been low carbing for months which caused me to GAIN weight! I have now gone onto a diet akin to the old slimming world red days (2 small portions of carb a day) with no appreciable affect on my blood glucose! I would LOVE to have got my fasting blood...

    Inaccurate home test meters?

No, apart from lowering the Metformin no new meds. I have also discontinued the simvastatin and Bendro- wotsit due to side effects (just updated my profile.) The other change is that due to ill effects for my other half, we have discontinued workouts at the gymn (until his AF is properly under...

    Inaccurate home test meters?

"I'm honest, neither is good and your number should be in the 4-7 range," Thanx but I know - it is just that the 7.8 was a really good reading for me! Since last November (when my Hba1c was so good that my GP halved my dose of metformin and was talking about me coming off meds altogether) I have...

    Inaccurate home test meters?

Well I am horrified. How on earth do I know what is happening if the test meters are so inaccurate? 8.9 is bad news but 7.8 is good news for me. The other fact is that the Code Free meter was within 0.1 of a test done at my local pharmacy although I agree that there are online articles that...

    Inaccurate home test meters?

Hello everyone I have 2 different test meters and test strips, an Aviva and Code Free. Thais morning I took my bg usinf the Aviva meter and it was 7.8 woooh very pleased as I have been only down to 20g carb per day since Monday! Something prompted me to repeat the reading using my Code Free...

How do you eat 80% fat?

Thanks for this - I do have one more problem tho - I rarely feel satisfied but live in almost perpetual hunger and I do try to drink a lot of water to fill myself up. I could eat another full meal right after I have had one (hence the suppers - I can't sleep if I am hungry.) I think this is...

How do you eat 80% fat?

Well thank goodness I don't have to eat so much fat! I really don't like it. I do eat tons of veg and salad but on the diet I have outlined I do not lose weight and ever since the New Year my bg has been up and down like a yo-yo. Two things happened - I had a nasty flu which lasted 2 months and...

How do you eat 80% fat?

I have been browsing the forum this am and realised that I am not eating enough fat and probably too many carbs, However, I don't know how to eat 80% fat. I eat two eggs scrambled and fried in a knob of butter with a slice of ham for breakfast, a large salad with hm coleslaw for lunch and a...

    packed lunch ideas

Depends how low carb you are doing but I sometimes make a scotch egg by wrapping a low carb (raw)sausage around a hard boiled egg then baking it (moderate oven, 15 mins then check it's cooked.) Sausages are never zero carb but some of the higher quality ones are not too bad.

    Cannot get bg down

Thanks for the suggestions. I do eat supper but I eat breakfast about 9 am so I could try to eat it (supper) before 9 pm, good suggestion. The problem is that I get hungry even though I am excreting ketones! When we eat dinner much later I can do without supper but then I eat a tea so all in all...

    Why am I hungry?

Just a quick question this time - I am definitely excreting ketones (urine stick goes a nice purple colour) so why am I still hungry for my meals? I understood that you didn't feel hunger when in ketosis?

    Cannot get bg down

I have been low carbing for some time now. Last November, my bg was so low (under 7 in the mornings) that GP was discussing taking me off meds altogether! Two things then happened - GP reduced Metformin by half (down to 1g a day) and after Christmas I got a horrible flu-type cold which lasted...

    Bg all over the place

I managed to get to see the nurse (who can prescribe antibiotics) but despite my colourful descriptions of my phlegm and even a dramatic performance of a coughing fit, i was advised to go home, continue with the expectorant and possibly inhale steam. No antibiotics. I feel like S**t and told...

    Bg all over the place

I have been low carbing very successfully - indeed, I was recently able to post my success in having my gp reduce my metformin! However, since just before the new year I have had a cold and then developed a dreaful chesty cough. I am still eating low carb but my blood test results are very high...
