    scared of high sugars

I've managed to get my levels down on metformin and exercise. To be honest, the exercise works a lot more than the metformin. 7/8 isn't so bad. Mine is often above 8 on a morning, thanks to the dawn phenomenon.

    New Years Resolutions

When you've decluttered your life and home, can you come and declutter mine??

I'm New here, wanted to say hi.

Six dogs! Wow, either you are brave, or they are much better behaved than my two monsters? lol . Welcome to the world of diabetes... it's not quite as scary as they'd have you believe :-)

What was your favourite moment of 2013?

Thank you - it already is!!

So, My Life Is Over Now.

Alarms. Diaries. Pill boxes divided into morning, lunch, tea, and evening doses. Wall plans. Meal plans. Shopping lists. Life schedules. I have all of the above and more. I don't have the health issues that you have, but I'm a scatterbrain, I forget to take meds, sleep, eat, and have...

What was your favourite moment of 2013?

My favourite moment of 2013 ? 11:59pm on 31st December, when there was only 1 minute of that horrid ruddy year left!! Was one of the worst years of my life.

    Low Carb Resolution

Sounds like a really good plan. I have found that reducing carbs brought my blood sugar down, and after a few weeks I stopped being quite so hungry. So although the first days will be tough, stick with it, come and rant on the forum when you are having a rough day... And before you know it...

    Changing monitors

Strange you should comment on the battery! I was given the GlucoRx Nexus, and the battery was dead in it. DSN had fiddle about and put a new battery in it. The brand new battery that she put in lasted about 4 months. Will say though that GlucoRX are super quick with supplies. I always...

    alli slimming pills

Funnily enough, I had the New Atkins diet book and cook book delivered today. I have decided to give it a bash as it's basically a more structured and intense version of the low-carb diet I've been following up until now. I've now got to the point where I need a bit of a post-christmas...

    alli slimming pills

With regards to Alli tablets. I went on these some years ago when they were first available over the counter. I ate a low fat diet, but even still, the side effects were awful. I'm trying to avoid getting totally gross here, but there will be bum leakage... the dietary fat that alli blocks...

    NEED HELP

Hi SJ. We have quite a few similarities. I'm 33, type 2, also getting married this year, and also looking to start a family as soon as possible after. I have found low-carbing helped with the weightloss (but I'm not on insulin), but also lots of cardio exercise. I started out being 19st...

    Red Wine

I don't drink much at all but I do have the occasional glass of red wine, because just one glass doesn't do a thing to me, so it's one of my diabetic friendly treats. To cut a long story short, yesterday was the last bad day of a really bad year for me... so instead of having one small glass...

Underweight -why is this overlooked ?

Oh Cripes!! Should I wear a mask when in public, just in case someone catches the diabetes, or even worse, the fatness when I sneeze? I know that my fiance hasn't caught either condition, but is there a clinic I should go to or a form I should fill out to make sure the ex didn't acquire Obesity...

    Annoying illnesses

Am in exactly the same position, Thommo. I have mild asthma, but never had a chest infection in my life, then I got Legionnaires and that changed all of that. In the last 8 years since, I've had pneumonia twice, and at least 3 chest infections per year. I've tried all kinds of supplements...

    What's Happened?

I'd say so. I'm on prednisolone at the moment, quite a low dose, but my sugar is residing in the teens.

When to resume exercise after illness?

Thanks for the advice! I have found out that whilst I may feel ok whilst sitting around and doing nothing, it's a different story when up and about. Just went shopping to the supermarket, and feel like I've run a marathon. So, I think that I may as well write this week off... this is...

    My husband's blood sugar

LOL good luck in trying. Unfortunately he's got to want to lose the weight for himself and pressuring him into it will backfire. My Mom has tried this tactic with my Dad for at least 30 years. Alas, he eats sensibly in her presence, but at night when she's gone to bed out come the cheese...

    Metformin & Diarrhoea

I'm on 2 x 500mg twice a day. It took a good 3 months for the side effects to diminish, during that time I staggered the dose to 1 x 500mg 4 times a day so that I wasn't having full-on effects. Now though, I rarely get any effects at all and can take them with or without food. In a way I...

    Festive Cuppa

Made this yesterday... been suffering from a chest infection and wanted something to clear out the rubbish! Also grated some ginger root into it. Was lovely! Inhaled the vapours of it whilst it was too hot to drink. Lo and behold, chest is much much clearer today. It's a miracle drink lol.

    carob

I tried Carob years before I was diagnosed with diabetes. Anything I made with it always ended up tasting like that really cheap chocolate that comes in pound shop advent calendars! I would definitely substitute with a good quality cocoa powder or high % cocoa dark chocolate.
