So... Is the pedicure lady over-reacting or am I being silly?

Hey folks, Something's been bugging me since last week, and I can't seem to decide on how to feel about it. What do you think, yea or nay? Basically, I have spent my life having difficult feet, and avoiding medical care. When I was in my early twenties, I hobbled around on an infected ingrown...

    Grub available while out

I'm always surprised if I run into a salad at a Comic Con or something... Lots of people eating junk food all around me, but I had my little ceasar with plenty of chicken breast this weekend. It's funny how excited one can get when you find real, actual food that's not carb-laden. I always feel...

Type 2 - CGM and ‘Official’ Advice

They're few and far in between though... I haven't actually found one yet. It does speak for their level of knowledge, I think, so... Hold on tight to this one. It's kind of like finding a unicorn in the park across the street. It doesn't happen often. ;)

Hi, I am very new to this game! Here’s my story

You've been through the wringer indeed... I'm sorry you went through all that, but somehow I have a feeling you're far from throwing in the towel, and still ready for a fight. Once rested up, of course. Diabetes responds to other issues in wildly varying ways, so do take it easy on yourself...

    GrapeFruit and all fruits

Honestly, when I was put on them 10 years ago, I was told no grapefruit whatsoever, or I might kick the bucket. Seems like things might've changed some, since!

    GrapeFruit and all fruits

Dunno what brand you're on, but usually, statins and grapefruit aren't a good idea. It's not on the box, but it's commonly found on the leaflet though. "Grapefruit juice Do not take more than one or two small glasses of grapefruit juice per day because large quantities of grapefruit juice can...

Type 2 - CGM and ‘Official’ Advice

I was into a low carb way of eating relatively quick, and the endo told me I didn't have the spine to keep such a diet up, ten years ago. It was working and had brought my blood glucose down into the normal range within two months or so, but still... She didn't believe I could do it. My GP keeps...

    Metformin tablets staying in stomach

If you're on Slow/Extended Release metformin, the tablets dissolve slower.... But six is a bit strange, if they've accumulated over the course of days. Are you on antacids by any chance? If you have little stomach acid, that might explain things as well? Love me a good puzzle, but it's all...

    Strawberries or fruit in general

Add fats, they slow down a spike. Clotted cream, for instance? Or full fat greek yog? I'm okay with a few berries, but fats make it more doable. Might help you, too.

    Walking shoes-What do you wear?

I have very wide feet, and with the thyroid issues my soles tend to get hot and burn-y... The shoes I walk best on are Skechers with ArchFit, usually Uno's. Thick soled, not the flex kind, because they're not supportive enough. The mesh kind is nice and airy for a hot day, but far from...

    Anybody heard of these

Considering they're saying a certain Dr. endorses it, and the pic of said doc is of a man with a different name embroidered on his white coat.... I wouldn't trust them on that basis alone.

"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I kept thinking about "Planned spontaneity" and your date today. People usually tell me I am spontaneous, but I'm very much not. I just know what my options are before I get into something, so if I have to shift gears, I can go to plan B, C, D or even E. They're not spontaneous ideas, I...

Relevance of fasting blood glucose to diabetes control

I think it largely depends on what it is you want to know, really... For a diabetic, morning fasting blood glucose is likely to be higher than a non-diabetic due to dawn phenomenon. It's not so much the exact number, I think it's more that higher numbers are indicative of a insulin sensitivity...

Newly diagnosed preparing for first appointment with DN

It kind of sounds like you combined low carb with low cal? Is that right? Because it's not about eating less, it's about eating right. No need to eat less, go hungry or whatever. Being hungry all the time isn't sustainable. Try having 4 eggs, bacon to taste, and a couple of high meat content...

Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

You're going to fit in wonderfully here. Love your sense of humor/humour, and hopefully we can help some. :) https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html might help some with the carb basics, if you'd like to tackle those before you get put onto any meds for T2...

    Diets

It would be helpful if we had a little more to go on, as advice we give can indeed take a wrong turn if you're medicated with things that make your blood sugars drop like a stone on a low carb diet. Here's my "The Nutritional Thingy"...

    Need help, in denial

Well, denial kind of ended when you decided to come on here and ask for help. It's a pretty important first step. As @Rachox already shared the Thingy, I'll just add this: You decide how you want to do this. If you want to change your diet some (no hunger, just switching carbs out for fats and...

    CGM or random testing?

Even a non-diabetic wouldn't consistently be between 5 and 7, so try not to kick yourself around if you see a nine, an 11, something like that. Just as long as it returns to normal levels in about an hour after the spike or thereabouts, you're doing alright.

How to structure exercise and food?

Oh, sorry! The liver releases glucose into your bloodstream, if it thinks you need it. Here it's often referred to as a liver dump. Trying to be helpful, and all. Could be triggered by waking (dawn phenomenon), strenuous activities, stress, or medications (usually steroids). It's a perfectly...

    CGM or random testing?

A T2 here, but I have used a CGM twice now, and did random testing before it became a more structured thing. Random testing doesn't really tell you all that much, unless of course it's because you feel funny and you want to check for a hypo. Then it's worth its weight in gold, of course...
