    I've dug out the editorial http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/814001

    How do you keep your BGs down when stressed?

    BGs go up under stress but how can it be avoided? Rush hour traffic and work itself are daily, predictable stressors. Does anyone have tips?

    It could have been better, or worse. It seemed really quite simplistic.

    Pesky dawn phenomenon

    There is a substantial link between dawn effect and higher HbA1c. That rise, although small, causes an even greater increase in risks of complications. A recent editorial from America suggested the risks are such that insulin should be used to manage it if nothing else works.

    Thanks for the metformin idea. It has worked twice now. My BG did settle later in the day so stress might have been a factor. How do others work to minimise stress-related effects? Actually that's possibly a new thread so I'll start one! Keep up the great 'dawn' work Brunneria.

    Thanks for the luck ColdEthyl. And no my name didn't come from a song at all I'm afraid.

    Pesky dawn phenomenon

    I've been following all this, but not yet trying it all, as my high morning BGs used to depress me so much that I just gave up completely for a few years :oops:. Now I'm having a cataract operation and have grasped the nettle. I've been on LCHF for almost 2 weeks now (my pre-op assessment urine...

    What have you eaten today?

    1 apricot, almonds and double cream (breakfast) ripe brie, cold bacon, almonds, forest fruit ice cream (snacks so far) feta, cucumber, tomatoes, olives, olive oil (lunch)

    Breakfast

    I know what you mean. I found that I can't face cokking or eating hot food first thing. In the end I've gone with Fage Total yoghurt - the full fat one - with nuts or seeds, or I'll have cold eggs in a fritatta or something made one evening. I haven't found anything else palatable. Rose Elliot...

    In ketosis but still tired+++

    Thank you for all the advice. I'm glad it is just my being impatient and not a sign that it'll never happen. I started LCHF because I had no energy in the 1st place due to poor control! I'm really looking forward to bouncing around getting things done with ease. I have started waking early...

    Diabetes Type 2 taking Cinnamon powder

    I recently bought the capsules from the site shop. My morning BGs have always been high, no matter what I do, so trying this in desperation. I've taken one before breakfast for about 4 mornings now, so still very early, but there has been no effect so far. Having read the threads here I wish I...

    ITV 7.30pm this Thurs

    What might be best is someone who still has Type 2 but has lost lots of weight on LCHF who might show before and after, blood results AND maybe help quell the propaganda that Type 2 dabetics are all fat, it's their own fault for overeating and they are costing the NHS loads of money. It will be...

    In ketosis but still tired+++

    Sorry to bother again, and I'm probably being impatient, but when might I get energetic? I'm on day 7, eating around 30 - 50g carbohydrate each day, and I believe I am now in ketosis (breath, urine etc.). I just feel tired and occasionally dizzy. My sleep was initially being disrupted but that...

    Anyone else feel sick?

    Yes. It doesn't look like it's related to the diabetes necessarily and if you've tried the usual treatments without success... Perhaps your GP could check for H.Pylori and anything else that might be relevant. :)

    Anyone else feel sick?

    Well I've never felt sick when high (except on legal opiates!) but I have felt sick for stretches of time when I can only assume I had 'excess acid'. That was a horrible sick and hungry feeling after food and it went away with a decent antacid (ranitidine or similar - not just a couple of...

    Scared? Confused? Hope this helps

    Lovely explanation of how to start out! Pulling it all together like that looks a bit like a precis of 'Type 2 Diabetes - the first year' which I eventually found and read. But anything useful or memorable from it has been covered here by you. Great stuff.

    What low carb book?

    I love the Rose Elliot books too, but they do tend to rely a lot on soy protein so not good if you can't tolerate soya.

    Is 3.7 a good reading?

    If you check several times with your meter you'll see it varies quite a bit - several percent- so the 'true' reading may be higher. Alcohol drives down blood sugars, hence the (old?) advice about eating with drinks if T1. I remember in my youth feeling faint and shaky after a hard night. Low...
