    Ready meals lowish in carbs

We all know that ready meals are not good for us, but sometimes I grab one from the supermarket. The problem is there isn't much choice if we want to keep it low/lowish in carbs. Most of them are rice, noodles or pizza with nutritional values giving a headache. If you found something suitable...

Bolusing for fat, protein AND carbs in a meal

Thank you Ruth :) I'm really glad it works out for you. It gives so much more freedom to eat whatever we want (almost whatever :)) In the last year they started introducing new improved model in Poland. They calculate calories from fat and protein separately. When I find out how it works (not...

Christmas Day Diabetic Friendly Dessert :-)

My absolute favourite is chocolate mousse. Easy and if you like dark chocolate absolute heaven. Add a splash of brandy or whiskey to make it even better http://www.diabeticgoodbaking.com/2015/01/chocolate-mousse.html If you are for something more complicated...

What's everyone having for Christmas dinner?

Roast turkey with salad and maybe a couple potatoes, herring and carp (traditional in Poland where Im from) and I will do some low carb baking. Probably mini cheesecakes and chocolate tart but I'm thinking about low carb black forest gateau too. Difficult decision :)

Bolusing for fat, protein AND carbs in a meal

I don't really have set amount of protein/fat I eat. It differs from meal to meal and that's why I'm so motivated to find the way of blousing for flexible eating. it work most of the time but I would lie saying its always perfect. I ate lots of **** tonight (having friend around and ready meals...

Bolusing for fat, protein AND carbs in a meal

For a big chunk of tuna (lets say 200g) I would need about 2u. Protein spikes me nearly as quickly as carbs!

Bolusing for fat, protein AND carbs in a meal

Yes I know this article looks rather scary! I gave up after few lines :) Calculations are not that bad I don't think you need any software. 1g of protein=4kcal, 1g of fat=9kcal. You can use something like myfitness pal or even cal&carbs. If you know calorific content of the whole meal, deduct...

Bolusing for fat, protein AND carbs in a meal

Counting 50%protein and 10%fat, gives more or less the same amount of insulin for a meal that is not very high in fat, as Pankowska method. It is not that precise for higher in fat meals. Extending boluses can be a bit tricky though. I find that I don't need to extend them as much as Pankowska...

Bolusing for fat, protein AND carbs in a meal

I use a Polish method mentioned on the forum before. Every 100kcal from fat and protein is one PF portion. My ratio for this is 0.4 u. For example if I eat 40g of potatoes with some protein and fat worth 400kcal I would have 4carb portions and 4pf portions. My ratios in the evening for carb is...

    Reflections on DAFNE

In the last five years Ive learned that the best way to control my diabetes is to watch carefully what my body says. They are of course some general rules , good to start with, but they don't apply to everyone. Forget the nurses who tell you your sugar levels shouldnt rise after certain food, if...

    Reflections on DAFNE

I think pump is the best solution for you. My control was similar to yours when I was on injections. Despite doing everything right, I had never managed to achieve good control. Dafne didn't change much and left me rather frustrated. At times I felt like an idiot who obviously cant do things...

    Christmas and snacks/treats in general

its really difficult with snacking, especially at Christmas time when there are so many tasty things around. I can hardly resist, not sure if a child can! I would suggest to prepare a small hamper bag with various snacks of his choice, carb count the whole thing and let him have it. If the other...
