OMAD and minor observation about fasting

It's good to hear you are on top of things. I was concerned as you are on medication to reduce your BG. We all need to be aware of the danger of low BG. Do you think your body may have become used to less food, so that even a moderate meal can leave you feeling full? Just a thought.

OMAD and minor observation about fasting

I suspect you are overdoing the fasting. If you are eating two few carbs or going too long without a meal, your BG may be falling to dangerously low levels. Please see your GP and get a blood glucose meter so that you can test your blood glucose throughout the day.

    Confused about carbs

Hi Wish 19. It is really confusing isn't it. We tend to think that bread, pasta, rice and starchy veg are the villains, but the reality is that all veg and fruit has some carbs. The ones that grow underground or in hot climates tend to have the most carbs. It pays to do your research and try...

    Food labels

Well done for exercising. However, I'm still a rugby referee at 64. For many years I refereed at least one match a week and sometimes up to three. It didn't stop me getting type 2 diabetes. Since diagnosis in November 2017 I have continued the refereeing, but also done 25 minutes on an...

    Butter

I would be surprised if it was the butter as it isn't acidic. Maybe your body is reacting to too much fat. I'm not a medical expert but query a gall bladder issue. May be as well to mention it to your doctor.

    Silly Question

If you are testing after a meal it should be one or two hours from the first bite. If you have a long meal then maybe do two tests, one after first bite and the second after the last bite.

    Type 2 LCHF and conventions

About the only good thing to be said about type 2 is that it isn't actually fatal if you have the odd carby meal. Stress can push BG through the roof, so it may be better to eat a sandwich once in a while rather than worry about not being able to find something healthy.

Newly diagnosed - reality has hit - vent

    Type 2 LCHF and conventions

I agree with the other posts. Try to avoid the convenience stores and fast food outlets. They sell nothing but carbs. I went into a petrol filling station the other day and there was nothing low carb for sale in the whole shop. Not a thing. There wasn't even a brown bread sandwich or packet...

    Weird...

In my humble opinion, anything that is called a diet won't work. Whatever you do has to be sustainable and strict diets aren't. I tried to cut out carbs completely for the first three months post diagnosis. You can't, carbs are in most foods, but getting it down to 20-30 gms per day is...

    Type 2 6 monthly results

I'm tempted to say its a marathon not a sprint, but I guess you know that. My advice is to use a meter and test, test, test. Test before a meal and one and then two hours after. That way you can work out the affect that each type of food has on your BG. Exercise can be a double edged sword...

    Anomalous result?

Do you wash your hands before you test? I wipe mine on a paper towel after washing, just in case there is something on the towel we all use. A speck of sugary food on your finger can send a BG reading through the roof.

    Newly diagnosed diabetic

Hello Hello. You have found the right site. Ask as many questions as you like. I did and it helped me get my HBa1C down from 53 to 40 without medication. What is your HBa1C reading? There's lots of advice here that will help you get it down.

    Blood Glucose Meter

Yes. I too use the pen which came with the code free and it's very good. I only change the lancet when it gets so blunt that it just bounces off the skin:) You can buy 50 test strips on line for less that £8 too.

    Visit to My GP

I spent 20 minutes explaining about HFLC diets to my DN after I had got my HBa1C down from 53 to 40 in 4 months and my cholesterol was in the normal range. At the end she said "Well done, we don't get many who achieve what you have. But, please cut down on the fat and you should be on statins...

I'm on holiday disneyland paris eating badly

Anyone who tells you all your toes will drop off as a result of all that sugary food is a liar. You will lose one or two at most:):):) Seriously, worrying about a bit of a binge will do you more harm than a few days of naughty eating. Eat well when you get home and all will be well.

    Healthy Fat, or not?

It is interesting how thinking on the balance of fat, carbs and proteins have developed isn't it. The scientific world identified that fat was the cause of heart disease, but then suppressed the fact that there are good and bad fats for over 20 years. The backdrop to all this was of course the...

    Healthy Fat, or not?

It's odd how people used to eat so much lard, butter and fatty meat in the past, yet heart disease was much less of a problem than it is now. I mention this because we have all been conditioned to believe that fat is dangerous. Food cooked in butter and lard tastes better. Fatty meat is so...
