What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Breaking my 18 hour fast right now with some left-over rib cap roast, and some fried bacon, sausage and eggs.

    Getting more disciplined...

Just a public post to promote my own accountability. I've been very ad-hoc, and my average level of IF has been lower than what I would like. To get more consistency, I'm doing 18/6 every weekday this week, and then 20/4 every weekday next week. Weekends more like 12/12. FWIW, my BG and...

How many carbs should I be eating??

For the best shot at success you should eat as close to no carb as you can. I follow a keto way of eating, and while I can allow up to about 20g of net carb daily, less is ALWAYS better. It's a radical change in eating patterns for anyone coming from a standard high carb diet (which is just...

what are your sources of fats(ketogenic diet)

I believe those percentages are the percentage of RDI (recommended daily intake). It's not saying protein is 48% of the calories or the weight. It's saying the protein is 48% of the protein you should eat in a day. Now RDI are not tuned to low carb eating so you can ignore that and use macros...

I'm one of the lucky ones - Less carbs has done it!

Great job...congrats. Now make sure you stay on top of it. Do you have a bread recipe to share? I haven't found one I like yet...

Sugar free sweets - are they really ok to have and any top recommendations? Thank you

It's a personal decision. I'm okay with anything using stevia, erythritol or monk fruit. That rules out a lot of commercial stuff that often include Sucralose, malitol, or xylitol, which I dont eat. So mostly I make my own treats. But to be honest I dont do it all that often anymore. I'm...

    Cost of shopping

I'm in Canada so it might be different here. For me, I buy mostly pork and chicken for meat. I buy beef locally an din bulk from a farm every year or so. I buy whole chickens and break them down myself. It's an incredibly useful skill that pays for itself easily. I get breasts, thighs...

Low BG at night, high in the morning - good or bad?

What you see is very normal, and seems to be more the rule than the exception with T2 diabetics. I've tried to find the answer to the "is this good?" question, and have given up. Some people believe that eating late in the day is better because they wake up with lower readings in the morning...

what are your sources of fats(ketogenic diet)

An avocado has about 20g of fat, 3g protein, 2g net carbs. Roughly. So as far as macros go, it'd 80/12/8 BY MASS. But we dont go by mass... we go by calories, and fat is more than twice as calorie dense as the other two, so in actuality it's more like 90/6/4. Which not only fits in keto, but...

    Celebrating real foods

No breakfast today, but lunch will be "deconstructed cabbage rolls". Basically ground beef and shredded cabbage braised in a bit of tomato sauce and broth, served with shredded cheddar on top. Dinner is planned to be beef pot roast. I will either go full carnivore for dinner, or eat some...

How long can you stay in remission with ketosis prone type 2 diabetes?

I've never seen the term "ketosis prone Type 2 Diabetes". Anyone care to enlighten me?

Did a plant base diet ever work for metabolic syndromes?

I think you could do a successful diet around a plant based principle, but I dont think the plantiness is what's driving the majority of the health benefits regarding diabetes. Keep in mind pasta and rice are wholly compatible with a plant based diet, and I doubt you could drive T2 into...

    Fasting

I do some fasting, although less this year than last so far. I believe it helps a lot with both weight and BG control, although I do keto as well, so the results are a mix of the two. My belief is if you had to choose between low carb and fasting, low carb is the more important of the two, but...

    Normal HbA1c,high blood glucose.

weird. How many readings have you had between 9 and 14? Are they fasting or non-fasting readings? Are you checking at regular times relative to meals? Most common is just before eating, and 2 hours after the first bite. Your readings sound odd, but it's hard to say more than that without...

    Breakfast

I've been refining a microwave keto English muffin for a while now. It's not perfected yet. I started with a "Paleo English muffin" from the web, but I've been tweaking some stuff to try to get the texture improved. Adding some flax and extra water made a big difference. Corrects some of the...

    SGLT2 Inhibitors

Unless you are having problems with chronic UTI, the studies show SGLT inhibitors are protective of the kidneys. FWIW I've been on them for a couple years and haver not had any side effects other than some initial weight loss. I know that's just one data point.

    Fasting readings

A long time. I'll tell you when I get there, My A1c responded well to keto diet, but my fasting readings rarely go below 7 mol/l. I've been at keto for most of the last year, with some intermittent fasting from time to time. Dawn Phenomenon is a harsh mistress.

    Worrying about my blood results

If you want to give yourself the best chance to turn it around without meds, stop eating most carbs, and replace the calories with healthy fats. It may be more than is strictly necessary, but like I say... will give you best chance for a turn-around.

    Breaking a fast

Hey Lizard. Good to hear from you and thanks for updating us. This forum is pretty quiet. For me, My long fasts stretched out to over 60 hours, but I had a bad experience breaking a fast, and haven't done a multi-day fast since. My time restricted eating has also suffered a bit of erosion...
