Aren't you glad you don't eat bread?

Won’t lie... I miss bread. Sugar or no sugar.

    Intermittent fasting Breaking your fast.

FWIW, I ended a 54 hour fast yesterday by eating whatever... probably too much (keto) food. It did not go so well. From now on fasts longer than 40 hours, I will break more carefully.

    2-day fast...trying something different

I hear ya. My wife did keto for several months and it was so much easier for me. She’s on a break from keto due to a string of gall bladder issues but plans to rejoin me soon. That will help. But fasting is a whole other experience and nobody here is interested. The glucose meter helps me stay...

    Intermittent fasting Breaking your fast.

Honestly unless your GI system is of the sensitive variety, I don't think 20 hours is long enough to worry about eating any special way to break it, Obviously staying low-carb will continue the benefits of fasting somewhat. Good luck. Edit: Oh, and 20:4 is more or less my normal routine, so...

    2-day fast...trying something different

Thanks! This may sound a bit obvious, but there doesn't really need to be a lot of preparation for what is essentially just "not eating". I find it helps if you are adapted to a low-carb diet, as your body will want to run on fat/ketones when fasting. Other than that I just make sure to take...

    Finding love

Well I'm married and have been since before my diabetes diagnosis, so I have never gone through this. But when I was dating, I don't believe in "playing the game" and I don't believe in holding back anything that's important to you in the early stages. IMO the goal is to find out if it's a...

    Intermittent fasting Breaking your fast.

I have done everything between 16:8 up to 48 hours, and to date I have not done anything special and have suffered no ill effects. I am breaking a 54 hour fast later on today, and am not sure if I will do anything different. Probably not. How long are you talking about @Andy_Warlow ?

    Alternative cauliflower cheese

I've been doing it this way: Simmer heavy cream until it thickens a bit. Remove from heat and let cool for a bit. Dump in grated sharp cheddar. and stir to combine. Voila! Sorry I don't have any proportions...I just kind of wing it each time, With cauliflower rice, I end up with something...

    Why full fat greek yoghurt?

Most people I know doing low-carb. are also doing high-fat. After all, if you remove carb calories, you need to add some calories somewhere else. If that's the case, full fat not only tastes better, but also helps to bulk up fat intake to satisfy macros. Especially if you are doing keto...

Confused by grapes ( and more)

To be fair, the serving size you are using is only about 8 grams of carb in total. 8g net carb is well under even a strict keto guideline, so if that's your only "cheat" from ultra-low carb eating, then it;'s unlikely to have much effect on your glucose if it's not a regular thing.

    2-day fast...trying something different

I'm doing a multi-day fast 2-3 times per month. My last one was 48 hours, and I'm aiming for 54 this time around. Just to try something a little different, and to see how it goes, I switched my starting time from after dinner (7 pm) to after breakfast (in this case, 9:30 am). My hope was I...

Working away from home - what to eat?

A little out of the box, and not quite what you asked, but what about fasting? Obviously not the whole time, but if you're concerned about the appropriateness of your diet on the road, you can always try skipping a day here or there.

    Starting my LCHF journey today

Meter is great...I agree with others. Here's some other things that helped me the first few times I went low-carb. Eat as much as you want as often as you want if it's low carb while adjusting. I remember eating a dozen eggs one evening. Keep busy during the worst times. I used to go for...

new to low carb diet, can i become hypo?

I've never heard of a true hypo for a T2 with diet and metformin only. I hope you adjust quickly and feel better. I had similar symptoms the first time I went on meds for diabetes several years ago. It made me pretty paranoid.

    What is your current diet?

LCHF/Keto. Absolutely no sugar, grains, potato or rice. Net carbs targeted under 30g/day. I also go out of my way to eat avocados as often as possible. Today for example was No breakie. Sausages and an avocado for lunch. Roast chicken thighs and cauliflower rice with cheese sauce for...

38 hours in...so far so good

It did actually and I made 48 hours without too much distress. Decided to end it there for this time, and probably aim for 60 next time.

Do you add salt, magnesium, potassium to your diet?

I use a fair bit of salt in my cooking anyway, and I take a magnesium supplement now. I'm a little concerned about potassium and I'm trying to bulk up my K through my diet for now at least. I eat avocados as much as possible for that (and other) reasons. The only other supplement I take is...

38 hours in...so far so good

Thanks BB...that's helpful. I'm around 41.5 hours and I can confirm I am indeed hungry. Not helped by the fact that my wife is working and I just finished feeding the kids. I've resolved to get to 48 hours then consider another 12 hours to make 60.

38 hours in...so far so good

38 hours into my fast which was intended to be 36-48 hours depending on how I feel. Right now it feels good. I'm not hungry at all, and the headache I had yesterday has gone away. Need to watch my fluids and electrolytes. I've done fasts of this size a few times, and I know it gets pretty...

    Couscous

It may be better for other reasons but it's certainly not a low carb food.
