Apples on a low carb diet

I find that apples make my bg go too high for me so I eat berries and the occasional slice of apple. I used to eat masses of fruit as I saw it as healthy. Now I see most of it as sugar with a few extra nutrients. I prefer to spend my carbs on vegetables with generally give me a lot more...

Type 2 doctors reaction to lower hba1c

I continue to be amazed by reactions to such great achievements. Your doctor should be delighted and encouraging you. Normal levels are likely to mean you avoid all complications. Feeling well is a a great motivator for me!

    Hba1c up

And we assume that the average life of our red blood cells stays the same year in year out though I'm not sure there is any evidence for that. I was expecting mine to be higher this time and it was the lower.

    Frequency for Hbalc ...

Given what we save the NHS in drugs and complications an HbA1c every y months seems reasonable!

Type 2 Should we be a little more cautious of following the Keto diet ?

I believe in the research, they lumped red and processed meat together.

Type 2 Should we be a little more cautious of following the Keto diet ?

I certainly don't feel I need carbohydrates as a type 2 and red meat is a very nutritious food that humans have eaten for ever!

HBA1C risen sharply over a year

Well done! You will probably be surprised how quickly your blood glucose number goes down. I was addicted to fruit so I know how you feel. Just look on it as sugar! Eggs are brilliant. Be prepared to drink plenty as you adjust your diet and keep your salt levels up initially as you lose water...

HBA1C risen sharply over a year

You sound as though you have had a lot of stress this year and that will have an impact on your levels but more importantly so will your food. If you follow standard NHS advice to eat 'healthily' then for most of us that will be a disaster. I no longer eat any fruit except small amounts of...

Nearly T2 aiming to stop that early

As soon as I went low carb I had what I think now were manic levels of energy. I had thought that I felt well before but nothing like now and 2 years on I still feel great though not so manic! Be ready for a period of adjustment, keep drinking and keep your salt levels up as you can lose a lot...

Best place to get a HBA1c Reading (apart from your doctor)

I too use Thriva. It isn't easy to get the blood but I have perfected it now. They do a subscription service but you you can delay your test or end it at any time.

    Extended fasting

I did a 24 hour fast yesterday for the first time inspired by everything I have read here and on dietdoctor.com . FBG this morning was a beautiful 4.2!

    Well done @bulkbiker

I'd have thought he ought to be asking you how you have done it and asking you to share with other patients! You are an amzing example. I find it so frustrating that suggesting that low carb might work and supporting people in trying it isn't now the first line treatment. Still slowly things...

Type 2 and Metformin side affects.

That must be frustrating. Are you testing before and after meals? That will help you to see what impact different foods are having on your bg and will allow you to get better control. You may still be eating too much carbohydrate.

I really don't know whether to eat cakes galore or to go on hunger strike :(

Given all that has happened to you, you sound as though you are doing amazingly well. We are always so hard on ourselves! Your HbA1c is non diabetic which is a great achievement. I too have been frustrated that mine hasn't come down as much as I have expected given how few carbs I eat. My...

    Metformin - a miracle drug (from HbA1c 53 to 42)

It's good that your result is lower but you may well be spiking and your level is still pre diabetic so you are at real risk. If you stop the drug your levels will likely go up and you risk suffering complications long term. Have you thought of changing your diet a bit or testing to see what...

    Trust Me I'm a Doctor Repeat 4.30 BBC2 today

They assumed it was the fat that caused the effect but all the meals had significant carbs so could equally have been that. They were looking to see if the drinks with food made any difference. Only the orange juice did and that made it worse - no doubt the sugar!

    Cutting back on BG testing?

If you are eating low carb, you are sure to have a lower HbA1c. You sound as though you are doing great. Don't stress too much as that can raise blood glucose! The more you test initially the more you will understand what different foods do to you. Testing at an hour often shows your peak but as...
