    Hba1c test results. Good news.

Got my latest Hba1c blood test results yesterday. Very pleased to see that it's fallen from 60 to 48. That's the lowest number I've ever had for the Hba1c blood test since I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 10 years ago. And I think there's more to come.

    An unusual reading.

Two hours after lunch today, my sugar level was 6.3. Pretty normal for me. At 2 p.m., I ate a cheese and Onion Sandwich. I've just tested my sugar at 5pm and found it to be 10.1. This is unusual for me. I would have expected it to be under 6.0. Does anyone have an explanation for this unusual...

    Had to stop Mounjaro

I was on Mounjaro 2.5 for most of January and was very pleased with the results. I had consistently low blood sugar levels during that period. However, 24 hours after taking first 5 mg dose on sunday i felt really bad. My heart rate shot up from 60 bpm to over 120 bpm. My resting blood sugar...

Just started 5 mg dose of mounjaro

I had my first 5 mg dose of Mounjaro earlier and was wondering if there's anything I should look out for with the higher dose. I did ok on the 2.5 mg dose. My blood sugar dropped by about 3 mmol/l, and I lost almost half a stone in weight. So I was wondering if there are any traps going to the...

    Lunchtime Snacks

I'm type 2 and I'm happy with my morning and evening eating control. But I find it harder to achieve a good balance for lunchtime. I don't want a full cooked meal. I prefer just a snack that doesn't need cooking or maybe just in the microwave. I could use some suggestions on things to snack on...

    Libre without the sticky

Is it possible to use a libre type device without having to stick it onto your skin? I'm allergic to the adhesive used on most medical applications and wonder if there is a way to use this type of technology without having to stick it on my skin.

    Hyperglycemia

Hi I haven't been on the forum for a while. But, a recent blood test at the doctor showed a significant rise in my sugar levels. I don't know what the actual figure was yet as I'm due to see the doctor next week to discuss the results. I also have an appointment with the diabetes nurse next...

    Very high blood sugar

I'm type 2 not currently on any diabetes medication. During the pandemic I've lost control of my food intake. As a result, my bg levels are mostly in the high 20s mmol/l level. It's not unusual for my level to exceed 33 mmol/l on a daily basis. I don't have any obvious symptoms for such a...

    Ketone warning

My sugar levels have been over 20 mmol for most of today. Unfortunately I gave into my binge eating urges. The level is slowly falling, and is now at 18 mmol. My blood meter has been giving me what it describes as a "Ketone Warning". Can someone please explain what this means, and what I...

    Why do I taste sweet?

I've noticed recently that my blood and perspiration taste a little sweet. I'm type 2 and not on any diabetes medication. I am on medication for heart problems and high blood pressure. My sugar levels have been pretty good lately, although I do have the odd junk food binge. A few minutes ago...

    Chicken and vegetable soup

I have a problem with binge eating which is not totally under control. I'm type 2 but not currently on any diabetes medication. I was on 3 x 500mg daily but was taken off that after a heart attack last year. My binges usually happen between 10 am and noon. Dont ask me why as I have no idea why...

    Medication Review

I had a medication review last month. The reason for this was I was put on some medication a year ago after a heart attack that I had to take for 12 months. I'm type 2 and not currently on any diabetes medication. I was on metformin 3x500 per day, but that was stopped when I had the heart...

    New blood test meter

I've been using an Accuchek Aviva Nano meter since I was diagnosed type 2 about 3 years ago. Unfortunately the meter has developed a fault and I needed to buy a new one. They no longer make the one I've been using, so I consulted with the diabetes nurse as to which ones they will be able to...

    Eating a favourite food?

I've been fighting a very strong urge to eat some of my favourite food. I'm type 2 not on medication. I'm really craving a big bowl of macaroni and cheese. I know the macaroni is not good for my sugar, but I really feel I might give in to the urges. So, does it really matter all that much...

    New Blood Sugar Meter?

The meter I have been using since I was diagnosed as type 2 is about to give up the ghost. It is an accuchek nano. This model is no longer made. It has an electrical fault, but I believe the results it gives have been consistent over many years. My GP has recommended a a Gluco RX Nexus to...

    Snacks to take to hospital

I'm going into hospital on Monday for a minor heart procedure. I'll be there for a couple of days. Unfortunately the hospital doesn't provide type 2 friendly meals. So are there some diabetes friendly snacks I could take with me so I can keep my sugar under control while I'm in hospital.

Can I be forced to go back on metformin?

I've been off metformin since last October when I had my second heart attack. Strangely, the 2 hba1c tests I've had since then were better than when I was taking metformin. I put this down to the heart attack encouraging me to eat better. I'm due another hba1c test this week and I'm afraid...

Effect of porridge on blood sugar

I like a bowl of porridge for breakfast most mornings and it normally doesn't affect my blood sugar readings badly. For example this morning my fasting / pre breakfast reading is 7.7 and 2 hours after a bowl of porridge my reading had dropped to 6.7. The other evening I fancied a bowl of...

Rising sugar levels after skipping meal

Recently I've not always felt like breakfast in the morning. I find on those days my blood sugar is higher around mid morning than it normally is if I have a breakfast. Is this normal? Should I force myself to have a breakfast even if I don't feel like eating first thing in the morning.
