    When to test??

Advising you to test three time PER WEEK is completely and utterly ridiculous. How on earth are you supposed to get any valid information to help you adjust what you eat or how you manage if you can't test every day? Follow the link above for an idea what I'm talking about. Advising you...

    Diabetes & alcohol

Sorry just seen you don't like tonic or diet coke. Ooops. Soda water with squeeze of lime? Would imagine orange juice is a no-no... LJ

    Diabetes & alcohol

Orange juice is a BAD idea - full of fruit sugars and will cause it to rise more than beer. If you prefer spirits try vodka with diet coke or lemonade or gin with slim line tonic or soda water! LJ

High sugar levels - how long before body damage?

Also, Chocolate is a really BAD hypo treatment. The fat in the chocolate slows the absorption of the sugar (ie carbs). You need something very sugary and non fatty - glucose tablet or drinks, fruit jouce etc. LJ

    Diary?

Either ask your nurse for one or phone up the helpline of the manufacturer of your blood glucose monitor - they will send you one for free. LJ

    When to test??

There is excellent advice and links here about testing (follow the link to Jennifer's advice especially): http://www.diabetes-support.org.uk/testing.html (sorry mods, twice in one day, I don't normally, but this is the best advice out there!) LJ

    off to see the doc

I hope the moderators don't mind me posting this invaluable advice which appears on another forum about testing. It includes a lot of help and advice (including excerpts from the relevant NICE guidance) about what to do if your doctor won't prescribe a meter and strips...

    Insulin storage

and of course anything you eat with the fridge door open has no calories in it, so i tend to do that a lot. ;) LJ

    Insulin storage

apparently, it's not as cool in there. it might be fine, but it might not! if you've never had any problems, there's no need to panic now, but i was definitely told that (think it just gets warmer when the fridge is open and shut than the actual body of the fridge, if you see what i mean). LJ

    Insulin storage

And NEVER store your pen/spare pen in the fridge - this can mess with the mechanism and break it/stop it from working properly. Spares in the fridge (not in the door as it isn't cool enough, and not at the back because that's too cold) but your current cartridge (the one that's in your pen)...

The Cure for Type 2 Diabetes

Carefix - suggesting that doctors in the NHS have a vested interest in making people ill is ridiculous beyond belief. I think you have a severe problem with paranoia. LJ

Delayed diagnosis, got caught up in the audit

Fivestar When you get your treatment sorted out your moods should go back to normal. However, running high blood glucose levels before diagnosis may have resulted in you feeling generally under the weather or irritable. LJ

    NEW U.S ALL NATURAL SWEETNER

Sue/Admin This person is NOT being upfront. He is posing as diabetic who has been helped by the product. I doubt whether this is the case. I think that is underhand and does not conform with the view expressed of "if they're upfront, then that's fine". Obviously your call, but let's...

    DIABETIC EXPERT WITNESS REQUIRED!

Your solicitor (if you have one) should be able to recommend someone. Be prepared to PAY for the expert's services, though. You'd be extremely unlikely to find one to do it for nothing! LJ

    NEW U.S ALL NATURAL SWEETNER

I just think that it should be clear: if someone is selling something (regardless if YOU personally think it works), it should be off the board. It's the only way to be fair about it. LJ
