    Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral Neuropathy is damaged to the nerve endings. You do not have to have any damage of any sort to the outside of your feet to have it. In fact, you don't even have to have diabetes to have it! I have had it for over ten years and have only had diabetes for 6 years! Mine came from damaged...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I didn't do mine till after a shower this morning and got the best 1st reading in ages! 5.3. I'm normally in the 6's an 7's. But can anyone answer this for me: If I go to bed with a reading of around 7.5 - 8.5, I will be higher in the morning! If I go to bed with a reading of 15.4 or some other...

Type 1 Driving within the legal limits.

Do these rules only apply if you are on insulin?? I'm not, but surely a hypo is a hypo whether you are on insulin or not! I'm having a battle with my DN and my doctor to get enough test strips. They will only give me 50 per month and that is being revised to one every two months in October...

    3,000 genes related to diabetes.

My eldest brother and myself took after my Dad in being brown haired and brown eyed. My second brother and both of my sisters took after my mum - light hair and blue/gray eyes. My eldest brother became T1 in his mid 30's (did not look after himself and had both legs amputated and passed away...

    Statins and T2D

I read a report a while ago that stated that cholesterol levels under 4 are as dangerous as those over 6! My cholesterol went DOWN (to 5.01) when I stopped the statins as did my HbA1c.(which is now 34 and I'm chuffed, as my worst was 82).

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

I was on Atorvastatin and when I went for my appointment with the DN, I told her that I was not going to take them anymore as I don't believe in all this cholesterol rubbish! She tried and tried to make me take them but I still said no! When I had my next appointment, 6 months later, my...

    Hospital Menu for diabetic person

Type one's can eat anything. They just have to adjust their insulin. I'm type 2 and when I was last in hospital (just before christmas) I would have gladly ordered a turkey salad but it was not on offer on any of the menu's throughout the week.

    Hospital Menu for diabetic person

Most of the "choices" were completely inedible when I was last in hospital. I'm not a fussy eater, but when you are offerd food of any kind you at least expect it to be cooked! I was served a jacket potato that must have been in the oven for all of 5 minutes. It was rock hard and cold. You don't...

    Hospital Menu for diabetic person

I was in hospital last June and found the food disgusting!! It was mince almost every day, just dressed up as something different from the day before!! (Shepherds pie- Cottage pie- Spag bol- etc) There was no carb or sugar information at all. I am trying my best to keep LCHF and my last Hba1c...

I'm T2 and have been prescribed 100 strips per month for the past 3 years. I take gliclazide and sitagliptin also 1000 mg slow release Metformin morning and evening. My so called diabetes nurse, ( who does not seem to know much about diabetes) has now told me that I have no need to test as I...

    Urine Infections

Hi Danielle, I am just recovering from uro-sepsis (for the third time in 4 months) due to a urine infection. I don't get any symptoms, so I asked if I could have some test strips to do a dip test every few days, but my GP refused saying they were too expensive!! I bought a tub of 100 on Amazon...

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

Hi, My blood tests came back as 'normal'. I have stopped taking the statins as I don't think they are helping me. My GP was very keen for me to keep taking them "even if you take one every other day" she said! Do they take a while to get out of your system I wonder??? I didn't tell her that I...

Statins - good or bad - what does the research say?

Maybe this is why, when I was rushed to hospital just before christmas with urosepsis (caused by an undetected UTI that went to my kidneys and beyond) the doctors took me off statins! They also stopped my Metformin! I was never told why or indeed if I should start taking them again once...

Not diabetic anymore??? Confused as heck :(

Taking a blood reading after just one hour will not give you a correct reading. You need to wait for two hours as your glucose will still be on the rise.

What happens with Metformin if you don't eat, anything?

Hi, I was recently taken into hospital by ambulance suffering from what turned out to be urinary sepsis! I had been unable to keep anything down for a couple of days before being admitted and therefore had none of my meds in my system by then. (btw I am t2 well controlled on 1000mg metformin...
