    Lockdown fitness regime

Ray B Hi everyone, I had a vascular by-pass op in March and second op in early April. As a result I was limited with my mobility etc and wondered how to keep some level of fitness. I decided that I would try and complete a routine of 100 push-ups per day. I did 25 reps 4 times per day. I am...

    Share Your Progress!

Hi everyone, I have T1 throughout my 74 years. A vascular bypass op on 4 March and follow-up op on 10 April left me some what limited in what I could do, as well as Covid-19. As a result I decided that I would try and do 100 push-ups a day. I stuck to a routine of 25 push-ups 4 times a day...

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

70 years with Type 1 is amazing and I can say that with some certainty as I have had Type 1 for 74 years. Born 1946, probably with diabetes but not diagnosed for 8 months. Things were very different then with insulin produced from pigs, which probably explains the shape of my nose (only...

Diabetes’ influence on my long term good healthier

P.S. what I failed to say was the competitive instincts I developed where I wanted to prove to my self and everyone else that having diabetes wasn’t going to stop me being as good as or (not very often) better than others in whatever sport we were involved in. Thanks Ray B

Diabetes’ influence on my long term good healthier

We hear so much about the negative influences on our lives because of diabetes and I have had a few. However I want to offer my personal experience of diabetes having a positive influence on me. Having had Type 1 for 74 years now, I often reflect on how my life could have been much worse...

    Hypos

Hi Danielle It does in my case and I believe that the body can be working hard producing sweat glands etc. Again for me if I am in the garden for example the symptoms can be missed in the heat. We’re all different still so it is obviously a phenomenon you don’t have to worry about. My original...

    Managing Diabetes On The Bike

Hi I have Type 1 and I obviously am baffled when ketones are discussed in a positive way. I have always believed ketones to be a killer in diabetes as they form a poison in your body and are meant to be avoided at all costs? As I say my knowledge and experience is of lifelong Type 1 over 74...

why am I so ashamed/embarrassed to tell/show people I'm diabetic?

I know it is easy for me to say, as I have had Type 1 for 74 years. I had, like so many people, been in denial during my adolescent years in the fear, ‘friends’ would reject me. They didn’t. In fact it was like lifting a great big weight off my shoulders when I told people. There were times I...
