    Interesting night with a CGMS

I have had a similar experience with the same equipment on my son. The time lag of the sensor reading being 20 mins behind blood levels defeats the object of the sensor - ie by the time the alarm goes it can be too late. I've also had problems when my son's reading go very high (above 22mmol)...

    Diabetic Support Teams

No sure where you live, but if you are nearish a different hospital you can swap. My Dad has type 2 and has been receiving his care from a different county's hospital. I'm pretty sure that under the NHS you have the choice to go to a different hospital if you want to. But I agree with the...

CGM and offer of a Pump!!

PS my son is 12 months now, and he's never pulled the canula out. We use a belt round his waist to hold the pump. He does play with the wire a bit when I'm using the pump, but once I stop fiddling, so does he. Really, there are a lot more interesting things going on around the house than a wire...

CGM and offer of a Pump!!

That's great news! I wouldn't worry about the canula bit. After a couple of weeks, I find it no problem. I use "emla" cream - it's a numbing cream. I put a blog on where the new canula will go and put a "Tegaderm" over it (like sticky cling film) leave for an hour and he never feels the...

    Morning carb/insulin ratios

I just wondered what morning carb/insulin ratios your kids have. I know it's early days, but Harry seems to need massive amounts of insulin the morning after his breakfast compared to the rest of the day. He's currently on 30g per unit (if that makes sense) for the morning and 50g for the...

    Slim teenage Insulin Pump user

My 12 month old is using the Quick set and whilst he is not slim (he's a chubby baby) the quick set seems to stay put more than the Silouette did despite the shorter canula. He is very active and almost walking, so lots of movement. Regarding pain - we use a numbing cream called "Emla" we have...

Weight gain since being on the pump

I can't offer any help, but is this something you could ask Accu-Check and your DN? I'd be interested to know what they say.

    Pump Accessories/Holders

Thanks Dustydazzler, I did check ebay, but the co.uk. I will check ebay.com. Thanks for the idea. Pumpwearinc.com looks great with lots of stuff but they are as expensive as the pump company! Clorinda

    Can u advise please?

Well I went from the friday being told my son has type 1 to the Tuesday going home with him and the pump and not knowing his insulin levels, only having one go at set changes and knowing very little about diabetes. The training session was helpful, but the support after was better.... You'll be...

    Can u advise please?

I would say 3/4 hours is sufficient to get you up and running, but that you would need telephone support from Diabetic nurses should you need it for things like changing your basal rates etc or say you've forgotten how to do something. They come with very good manuals on how to use them. I was...

    11 month baby Type 1

Hi Hana, Yes the pump is brilliant. It is a bit of a postcode lottery with the NHS, but I would highly recommend it. He went straight on the pump after he was diagnosed. We have fine tuned the basal rates (Levemir equivalent), and he is on teeny amounts at night, a lot more during the day. It...

    11 month baby Type 1

Thanks Hana, My diabetes team are truly amazing. These are the sort of people who deserve honours from the Queen, not pop stars and actors! We have always intended to Home Educate (disenchanted with modern schooling), so nursery/school etc isn't an issue. I have heard a few people complain...

    2yr Old Type 1

Hi Hana, Nice to "meet" you, and thanks for posting on my thread. We are doing ok, and thanks for the advice too. It's all very stressful at times, but I'm getting used to it now. Have they offered you an insulin pump? Not sure which country you are in, but at 2 yrs old, they should be...

    Pump Accessories/Holders

Does anyone know any internet seller who sells pump holders? Have googled but not found anything. Just spoke to Medtronic who want £21 for a belt - just a belt!!! (prob costs about 50p to make), £14 for a holder and £22 for a back pack holder. We needs spares bec our 12 month old has to wear...

    Colouring Insulin!

I can't say I fret about air bubbles enough to colour insulin. As long as you load the insulin reservoir to minimise bubbles then the odd champagne ones won't hurt (or so I'm told).

A couple of questions about pumps

I can answer some of those. My 12 mnth old son is on a pump - diagnosed 4 weeks ago. 1. Can you choose which pump you have on the NHS? No, I was told which one it was. But to be honest, looking at some of the other pumps available, they are all very similar. Your PCT might let you choose...

    11 month baby Type 1

Hi Amanda, Thanks for the encouragement. Yes we do know about the different types of canula's. The DN has been fantastic trying to get all sorts of gadgets for us to try. He's on the Paradigm Veo pump, and was on the silouette canula this was injected (slow method) at an angle. For the last...

    Using pump but still high

Are you sure the transpore tape isn't making the cannula come out? Also, the diabetic nurses told me that on the first day, of a set change the pump isn't as efficient as later days. Also, do you think you are more insulin resistant at different times of the day? I think pumps need tweaking...

Toddler on pump moving back to Uk

Hi, I think this will depend on a number of things: 1) whether your child is already a british citizen. If not, you'd best check with the UK embassy in Australia as to what the rules for NHS funding are. 2) if 1) is ok then the primary care trust where you will live (some are better than others...
