Shortness of breath with high blood glucose readings

I felt like that when first diagnosed. After being fobbed off repeatedly by the g.p., I went to A+E where they took a finger prick test and said ‘How long have you been diabetic?’ They then said my symptoms were absolutely nothing to do with diabetes. Odd that I started to feel better and the...

Diabetes Nurse told me just now I need medication

I think you are doing really well. I’m puzzled as to why she expects you to go as low as 4. Surely that’s bordering on a hypo. Is she confusing glucose readings with cholesterol levels? I am no longer taking medication, was told not to test, (I do) and my last HbA1c was 49. I was told my...

    Eating out nightmare

I was in a small cafe in London recently, and the menu was very carb heavy. I asked if there was anything I could have without the bread, and was told I could just choose any sandwich filling. I chose ham and cheese from the panini option, and it came in a little cardboard box. Delicious ham and...

    Just Noticed

He can read the numbers on line. Cholesterol is 5..6, HBa1C is 43. We are not worried about cholesterol in the slightest. The test was taken in the heat of summer when he may have been dehydrated. I’m not sure whether that will have made a difference, but I know what he eats, and it’s pretty...

    Just Noticed

My husband has been told he has slightly high cholesterol and is pre-diabetes. (I actually don’t believe that). The doc told him to eat plenty of bread and potatoes!!!!! His weight is below normal so the doc maybe wants him to put some weight on.

Heart racing 2-3 hours after dinner and leg rash

I was diagnosed with type2 nearly 20 years ago. For months I had been suffering with rapid and pounding heart beat. The dr said it was anxiety but if it got really bad go to A and E. I finally did present myself there, they did a finger prick test and said I was diabetic. They insisted the heart...

    Rapeseed Oil

Several years ago my knees were very painful. Dr said they may respond to physiotherapy, and that helped a little. Then I read about seed oils being inflammatory, and at the time I was using margarine and cooking oil. At around the same time I was reading about cholesterol and statins. I...

    blurry eyes

Just a thought - are you using electronic equipment more during lockdown? Agreed it could be diabetes related but it could be eye strain. Be sure to have time away from your phone etc if that is the case. PS I need to take my own advice.

    What pudding can I have?

I have a tiny portion of whatever I’ve made for my husband, with double cream. I’m type 2, and my glucose doesn’t spike too high. It stops me from feeling too deprived. When on holiday I might ask for one small scoop of ice cream. One chef refused once though, and would only send out three...

    Men's socks for diabetics

I buy socks from TK MAXX, plenty of choice of loose tops - Pringle, Elle, etc, and reasonable prices. They do Pringle for men. The problem with many of the loose top brands is that there is still a toe seam that can rub, whereas Pringle and Elle have a smooth toe seam.

    GlucoRx Nexus

It’s the one I use - the nurse gave me one but I have to buy strips. I don’t use vast amounts, about 6-9 pots per year, and I get 3 pots at a time on line, VAT free, for £36. The company will supply free notebooks, test solution and batteries (AAA). Mine is the full size one with a back light.I...

    migraine aura

No I don't feel down. I do wonder if it is anything to do with diabetes, but sugars don't seem to be too low or high during an attack. The auras have been more frequent since diagnosis about 18 years ago, but I am older after all. I don't get a headache, but my father had disabling migraines so...

    migraine aura

Exactly the same for me. They seem to come randomly, but if I get one, I get several over a week or so, then a long gap of weeks or months before the next one. I don't drive, so it's not a major problem. (I think it would be distracting if I was driving.)

What was your bg reading last night and this morning?

Back down to 5.6 before lunch. I had a walk but am still feeling a bit grotty. Scrambled egg for lunch.

What was your bg reading last night and this morning?

My levels are usually in the range 5 - 6 in the morning, but this am it was 8.5. I didn't test last night. I wonder if it was because I was awake for half the night with stomach ache. I'm feeling better now, and I'll test during the day. I test infrequently as I am generally pretty stable...

What Do You Do For Fun?

I'm into wildlife when I can get out, but I relax otherwise with reading (Kindle) and playing games on the ipad - candy crush, farm heroes, etc. Sad aren't I?

What are you doing now and humorous banter.

Thanks Wolfie. All his inflammation markers in his blood were high, but cholesterol had plummeted. Cholesterol doing its job?? Suggestions at the moment are polymyalgia rheumatica or temporal arteritis. He's on steroids at the moment, and feeling marginally better this morning. I've just had a...

Thanks for your and @Molly56's good wishes. I can attest that he hasn't lost his appetite - he's eating well! I hope you are soon feeling better @Fairygodmother, don't over-do it.
