    Effect of exercise on pancreas

I have started at the gym, after a long layoff. A recent blood test showed a level of 88 which I know is high. Over the past three weeks I have been walking for at least 30 minutes every day on the treadmill at 3.5% slope and 6.5km/h which is as much as I can manage at present. My effort level...

Type 2 From 107 to 75 in three months - good or bad?

It is actually from 109 to 75. No particular diet, just lots of fruit and veg, no cakes etc. On two Metformin twice a day

Type 2 From 107 to 75 in three months - good or bad?

I have just seen the results of my blood test taken yesterday online - it is only for the HbA1c and the others for cholesterol are not showing. It says my HbA1c is now 75, having dropped from 107 at the end of December. Is this good or bad, considering I have been walking almost 10,000 steps...

    Concerned about testing heart rate

Hi, I am trying to reduce my HbAc1 from 107 (mid-December. So just about a month ago) and was told to get as much exercise as possible (as well as be more strict with my diet). I have been walking every day this year and am now averaging about 9,500 steps through walking once or twice a day. I...

    First three months on Metformin

I was put on 2x500mg Metformin at the end of September when my HbaC1 was 125. First blood results from yesterday show that is now 109. I know that is still too high, but would increasing the dose help lower it at a greater rate?

    Flu Jab

Got a text last Thursday saying campaign in Scotland had started and to make an appointment. Did so for Tuesday afternoon and had it done. Painless and no side effects. Had pneumonia jab done along with flu jab six years ago just after diagnosis and flu was fine, but pneumo one did hurt a bit...

    Flu Vaccinations 'soon'

Went to see the GP on Tuesday for something else, asked when they were starting to do them, and got it there and then. Completely painless and no after effects. Just have another week to go before full immunity takes effect.

    Flu Vaccinations 'soon'

Practice Nurse told me at end of July they hoped to get them earlier this year, sometime in September. Reception told me last week however that it was still planning for October. I get mine as early as possible every year, and for many years - before diagnosed and entitled to it free of charge -...

99% sure to be diagnosed on Monday

Hi Flora LB, Came across your posts after a long absence from this forum and see it is about 18 months since your last post. Hope you are getting on OK. How are things going? Did you manage to get over your phobia and get protected against pneumo and flu? Best wishes Sent from the Diabetes...

    Flu Jab

The pneumo jab is a one-off and if you haven't had it, it is worthwhile having it done, as pneumonia is very bad news for diabetics. The injection is similar to a flu jab but some people do find their arm aches a little bit for a day or so afterwards. Don't let that put you off - you really do...

    Strange meter readings

I did a finger prick test this evening before my evening meal and it was 7.4 - similar to yesterday. Like last night I then went to the gym and spent an hour on the treadmill, then had a swim and used the steam room and sauna. On return home I did another test. Last night it was 5.9 but...

Funny looks at the chemist's !!!

These stories about difficulty in getting strips on the NHS - I guess in England - are so depressing. I am glad that all I need to do is call the surgery and pop in to pick up a repeat prescription for two 50 strip pots the next day which I get dispensed free within 20 minutes at the Co-op next...

99% sure to be diagnosed on Monday

Don't worry about the flu jab - you won't feel a thing and it will be over in two or three seconds. You probably won't feel the pneumo jab either - ask for it in the other arm if that isn't offered - and you may find your arm is a bit tender for a couple of days after. Some people don't have any...

    Diabetic Screen

I realise it is a couple of months since your post but if you haven't already taken up the offer of flu and pneumo jabs I would certainly do so, although the flu jab probably won't be available for this coming season until October or so. You don't want to get flu - which is quite different from...

    Fitbit

No it is not waterproof, per se but if you do accidentally submerge it the advice is to put it in a bowl of rice, which will soak up the moisture. Don't think it is guaranteed to work - I won't be trying it!

    Fitbit

I have had one for a couple of months and find it very good. It has helped me enormously in my fitness regime, however it is not very good at logging cycling (which is fully recognized by the company) and so I use a Heart Rate Monitor linked to my iPhone and running the Digifit app. It, along...

Results in advance of review on Monday

Mary, I switched to Alpen No Added Sugar (it is the blue bag/box) on the advice of the local diabetic dietitian. I don't test, so have no idea. I will be suggesting I start testing at the appointment on Monday, but I suspect the answer will depend very much on how the HbA1c results come out. Iain

Results in advance of review on Monday

I am based in Scotland and have signed up to the NHS MyDiabetesMyWay website which has some of the results of blood tests taken a week past Friday. The cholesterol level has dropped from 3.6 to 3.3 over the last six months and I have also lost a stone in weight in this period. The Creatinine...

    Upcoming review

I am having my second review since diagnosis (last August) around the end of May. At fiirst review after three months I was told to come back after six months. I think I have to get blood taken a couple of weeks before the appointment but need to know how I should prepare for this I.e. should I...

First review next week - what to expect?

The flu jab was painless and did last only a few seconds. The pneumo jab, in the other arm, did sting a little but it couldn't be described as having been painful. My arm ached a bit for a couple of days afterwards, but was worth it for the lifetime protection it gives.
