Test results back albeit 6 months later than normal!

For the last 3 years I have been on 1 Metformin a day and my fasting blood sugar was about 5.7 and last hbac1d was also 5.7. I asked to come off metformin a month ago. Now my fasting blood is creeping up to 7.1 on waking. Should I be back on the 1 Metformin?
I came off metformin, I tablet per day, after last hbaic of 5.7. This is 3 years after being diagnosed. I have noticed my own tests have increased slightly with the fasting test on wakening now approximately 6.00 to 6.5. Later in day not too bad but always over what I used to be. Does this mean...
After being on only one 500 mg per day the nurse, having seen my hba1c results has agreed I should stop. My hbA1c has been a constant 5.7 for a year.
Stopped taking it 3 days ago and the symptoms are similar to when you start them.
Has anyone else had this problem ?
I think it is each to his own. I’ve just had my latest hba1c at 5.7. Always have shredded wheat or weetabix and 1 alike of burgen toast. Maybe I tolerate wheat! Just test and test
