    High and low

Hi Mark, also review what you did the day before. If I exercise today then my sugar's will also drop unexpectedly tomorrow. Stress can also affect your levels

    Exercise

Thanks for replying BigRedSwitch, it's definitely interesting. I did find that running made my blood sugar rise but the current classes definitely makes it drop (and for a couple of days). Will try more carbs before and see if that helps

    Exercise

Hi everyone, Just wondering how people manage exercise with their diabetes. The problem I have is that after an exercise class my sugars always seem to stay low, for a couple of days sometimes. I'll be honest, I usually rely on biscuits to keep my sugars up but to me this seems to be...

    Starting Basal-Bolus

My tip is - don't try and inject slowly. Think of it as like popping a balloon - it's a lot less painful ;-)

When do they start you on insulin?

Hi Every Cloud, Hope they sort you out soon. I was quite upset when they first put me on insulin because it made me feel like I was a bad diabetic. Since being on insulin I have felt so much better, and have far greater control over my sugars and lifestyle. Also, don't always run and get your...

Safe artificial sweetener suggestions for diabetic lemonade

How about using the stuff made from Birch bark (I think)? - Total Sweet from Holland & Barrett. Can be used exactly the same way as sugar... http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=605&prodid=171 Does contain Xylitol - not sure if you are trying to avoid that

    HbA1c.

Hi Kenneth, According to a DUK page a non-diabetic should have an HbA1c between 4 & 5.9% http://www.diabetes.co.uk/what-is-hba1c.html I think with proper diet and exercise it might be possible, my nurse hinted the same but it's maintaining that intensity that's the problem

    Freestyle Insulinx Smart Meter

Thanks for that Simon. I did get the password in case I wanted to change anything. The only thing I have an issue with is when entering the number of carbs. Why it doesn't just go up in 5s?

    Freestyle Insulinx Smart Meter

Hi everyone, Recently been given one of these 'smart' meters and wondering whether anyone else is using one? When testing it asks you how many carbs you are about to eat and then suggests a dose. The finger pricker is better as it only needs a tiny amount of blood and you have a minute to...

    Post Op Sugar Levels

Thanks for replying. It's been nearly 2 weeks since my procedure but still no sign of going back to normal. I havènt been taking any painkillers but I thought my pain threshold was quite low - maybe it's pain related? Take care Sean

How did you feel about switching onto injections?

I remember that I was pretty stunned when I heard that I had to go onto injections - I'd only been on tablets for a couple of years but it does give you a lot more control. I was also very needle-phobic but that's been well and truly cured now. :)

Do you tell people you have diabetes?

Only if I think they need to know.

    Post Op Sugar Levels

Hi everyone, I'm a Type 2 and had a procedure last week where I was given an epidural and some injections to my spine (also one to my elbow whilst I was out). My Hba1C isn't great at 9 (in old school values) but my fasting sugars are almost always between 5 and 7. Since the procedure I've...
