    ketone meter

So glad I live in Scotland. I have never been questioned about any of my supplies. My GP lets me manage my own Diabetes, will prescribe me anything I ask for, and goes by the theory that a £20 box of Ketone strips is way cheaper than the 3 nights I would spend in hospital with DKA :-)

What was everyone's blood when they go diagnosed?

Mine was only 14.8. But Ketones off the scale. I guess because I had been in DKA for a week or two I hadn't eaten anything, or anything I did eat I threw back up. Usual symptons. Nagging dose of Thrush, drinking gallons of full sugar coke? Yes I was craving sugar!! Pissing every 20 mins, Too...

    Errrggghhhh Another night-time hypo.

Not so much a little damp when I woke up. More like 1/2 a dozen buckets of water had been thrown over me. Early start today, not keen on spending 1/2 hour at 4am changing sheets and showering. When I tested I was at 8.5, so my liver must have kicked in just in time. I get kinda worried about...

Cost of blood glucose and ketone strips to NHS

I'm in Scotland, and the NHS here has a bit more cash. I have never been denied, or for that matter even questioned about any of my supplies (My meter munches through 300 tests per month!). Doc just writes whatever I ask for. I'm moving to England next year, and not looking forward to the...

Please help! How high can blood sugar levels be/fluctuate for a newly diagnosed type 1?

During my first week in hospital after diagnosis, My BM would frequently shift between 2 and 30 mmol/L within 1/2 an hour. Soon settled down though. Tom

    Benefits!

I'm on ESA athe minute, as I have chronic pancreatitis, which has been playing up somewhat (currrently compressing my bile duct, and 2 attempts to stent it with an ERCP have failed) for the last few months leaving me in constant pain and needing large amounts of opiates just to 'function'...

So I dunked my BG meter in Lucozade...

Lol, my thoughts exactly. I didn't expect it to work. Thought some kind of error would pop up. But no, didn't flinch, just read out 10.2! Tom

So I dunked my BG meter in Lucozade...

Ok, I was bored! And it only registered 10.2. That must mean when I'm in my 20's my blood must resemble Golden Syrup :-/ Tom
