answered perfectly above....

Thanks. Im wondering now can I inject to cover both
Me again. Can I inject to cover both breakfast and lunch with one injection. Cos you were saying I wouldnt have enough rapid acting for lunch. But I always inject enough to cover brek/lunch. And in the enening pre tea,its usually ok.
Thanks for reply. I expect sugars to increase 2 hours after meal. All I know is that in the evening pre tea, they come down to 5 or 6. I got another post where it suggested to eat a big tea and inject a fair bit of insulin, go for a walk and that should do it. Maybe a sandwich later on before bed. Its just I have a fear of injecting too much insulin at teatime I will get hypo. But by eating more food, I should be able to overcome this problem.its quite logical I suppose. The issue with mixed insulin is the different activity profile of each insulin.
Rapid acting insulin (like the type that's in 25Mix) will take around 15 minutes or more to start working. Its activity peaks around the 2hr mark and by the 4hr mark its pretty much all gone.
The long acting part of the insulin is designed to deal with the continuous trickle of glucose from your liver and will last for around 12 hrs. So really, you're injecting twice a day because of this long acting part of the insulin and you need 2 injections around 12hrs apart.
Going back to the rapid acting, if you injected before breakfast - let's say 07:00, then by lunchtime you don't have any left. Eating more than a few carbs will most likely send your blood glucose sky high. I don't understand how you are injecting "enough to cover brek/lunch" as you put it???
The long acting part of the insulin may bring your glucose levels down over a long period but it's not really intended for this. You might think that your blood glucose levels are OK pre-tea but how high are they 2hrs after lunch? If you simply increased your morning dose you would probably be hypoglycaemic by mid-morning.
I keep seeing on net about humalog insulin so am wondering is humalog insulin the same as humalog mix 25/75. Thanks in advance. Thanks for reply. I expect sugars to increase 2 hours after meal. Thanks a lot. I thought it was that ok.Presuming its taking about plain 'Humalog' then no its not the same, 'Humalog' is different to 'Humalog Mix', 'Humalog' is a fast acting insulin, 'Humalog Mix' is a mix of fast and long, there's some info here about them: https://www.humalog.com/fast-acting-mealtime-insulin/
I injected 14 units of him25mix this evening, ate 2 fried eggs and a fistful of brown rice plus 2 slices of toast. When I returned after not too much walking, it was 6.4. Ive eaten a bit more since as I felt just a little hunger coming on. I just keep on eating guess I was born hungry. Good night or day wherever you all are..Thanks for reply. NO!!! You can't simply convert between Humalog Mix dose to Humalog!!I keep seeing on net about humalog insulin so am wondering is humalog insulin the same as humalog mix 25/75. Thanks in advance.
I never get a hypo mid morning. I find ive enough insulin at 12.30 to allow me to eat a bread roll with salads and chicken.when I arrive it can a level of 7.5 or if I walk home 5.8 or soThe issue with mixed insulin is the different activity profile of each insulin.
