13 Oct '24 - Lunch and meet up in Frinton!

Hope you all have a lovely time. Wish I could be there, it is a very awkward drive. Have fun.
 
I just discovered that Lidl sells the most amazing Spanish pork scratchings at the moment.
I've had them before when they sold them in the Netherlands some 3 years ago, but they never came back, Spanish week or not.

Two Lidls around here one had them (and I bought them all today), one didn't have them.

Long shot but @Grant_Vicat , @LittleGreyCat , @MrsA2 , should any of you happen upon a Lidl before we meet, I wouldn't mind bringing 20 (or more) bags back to the Netherlands...

Mind, it's the BBQ flavoured ones I'm after, not the regular ones, and I will of course pay for them!

Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow, with or without pork scratchings!

 
Sipping some soup with Kornelis an hour ago: "You know, Antje's at the meet-up now. With other forumites. Low carb. Lunch."

I don't do people. The more I try, the more I realise they're just really, really not for me. But still this sounds like an excellent time, and I hope you guys are still hanging out there and having an absolute ball. Or swimming off whatever carbs did sneak in.

Lots of laughter (sorry, not suitable for a family friendly forum so not sharing), good food, and good company.

Jalapeño pork scratchings sound amazing, too bad my ferry will leave tomorrow morning.
I got very lucky though, and @MrsA2 brought me a present of lots of different low carb snacks!

It was the most fun and interesting time I've had in ages. Bit like a blind date!!!
4 very different people with 4 very different presentations of diabetes. Much to talk about, and much more to learn about each other yet I'm sure!

I loved the cafe! Was so nice to just be able to pick without restriction of "can't have that" and be left with so little choice. Here everything was low carb, and they sell some items/ingredients too, and, best of all, they package slices of cake to takeaway. I have 3 now residing in the freezer as I'm still so full from the pizza.
Next time I'll pay more attention to the daily specials.

Was soooo nice not to have had to cook or feel restricted. I thought the prices were very reasonable too, given the cost of ingredients

Took me nearly 2 hours to get there and just over 2 hours to get back home again but was so worth it.

I'd definitely go again, trying to convince hubby it would be a nice day out, but his conversation wouldn't be nearly as interesting and varied as we had today

I'm already back home, but will keep my eyes open in future
 
2 of the cake slices I bought home. The green one is coloured with spinach and the brown is a tiramisu.
Both are wonderful and taste like real cake.

And very, very much this!
Between the 4 of us, we did represent 4 completely different presentations of and experiences with diabetes, yet there were many common grounds to find. Surprising and very interesting differences as well.

I liked how conversations ranged from diabetes to completely unrelated stuff and back to diabetes again.

And shamelessly recommending Keto Bite UK in Frinton once again.
I went there once, almost exactly two years ago, and when I came in today the owner remembered I was from the Netherlands and asked me if I still was a moderator on a diabetes forum.
Which is pretty amazing in my book.
