Type 2 2 how long to fast before blood tests

I've always fasted for at least 12 hours before all my tests as that's the requirement for lipids. Recently I heard that fasting blood sugars should be tested only at maximum 10 hours and a longer fast would give false readings. Can anyone explain this? Should I ask the lab to do two separate draws two hours apart.

It sounds like made up nonsense.

8 hours, 10 hours, 12 hours it will be all be guesswork with little or no evidence to back it up.

I believe NHS guidance is to fast 8-10 hours before a blood glucose test.

I usually go 12 and when I am asked when I last ate and drank, and I tell them, nobody has ever said I have fasted too long or for too short a time.

I can not find a written statement about the blood sugar maximum fasting time, just a remark from a GP in a hurry that it should not be more than 10 hours.
But I did find this one, about lipids, just as puzzling . Capital Pathology

I am always told to fast for 12 hours before my HbA1c test and it is for the full test for cholesterol glucose kidneys and liver function

When I have a fasting blood test done, I do not eat or drink anything after my evening meal except for water.

I go to the pathology shop at 7:30 am, as the earlier rush of people who get there at 7:00 am. are being processed by the time I get there.

So a good ten hours for me.
