being diabetic!!
Not much of a question or query but I just wanted to share how happy I am I'm being moved onto novo rapid and lantus instead of novomix all the time!!

Congratulations,
a Basal (lantus) and Bolus (novo rapid) should allow you to tailor your insulin to your life rather than the opposite! By carb counting you should learn how to fine tune your insulin use.

I'm also on lantus and novorapid, hope it all works out for you Rachy!

I went from the mix to the same thing and found it worked great, I preferred lantus as it was 1 less injection as well, Hope it works well for you

how old did they keep you on a Mix for? My Doctor couldnt wait to get me off it. i think i switched to at the time insulatard and novorapid when i was around 15.

Just something I've picked up on and I'm probably being really THICK here I'm on Basel and bolus of Humalog through my pump topped up with metformin 500 x 2 daily and there seems to be a lot of people on 2 insulin s etc is there so many not on pumps?. Also my Basel rate is 43units a day and if I fast this keeps me around 4.5 to 6 through the day and I've not had to alter this for some years (except when poorly) is 43 units high compared to others. My boluses average. 12-18 units depending on carb intake

Not On a Pump here, was given the option once but my control was ok and i didnt like the idea of being hooked up to something all the time. i would imagine id have a real hard time sleeping like that.

i had a CGM for a week and didnt even really like that (really dont like things on my skin)

I have currently been changed from novo rapid and lantus to novomix30 in the past few months my sugar levels are either between 6-14 in the mornings and 14-20 in the late afternoon. I can't seem to get on top of it all. Are you finding the novo rapid and lantus easier? I have always been in denial about having diabetes and I just want to find the best routine. My hba1c before Christmas was at it's lowest but I'm sure this is a cause of the low and high readings making it a lower than before. Any advice would be great!

Did you not get on with the basal/bolus regime shorty?

It helps if you are provided with a carb counting course like DAFNE to teach you about what the insulin's do and how they do it and ultimately how to adjust the insulin's on your own...

ON a mix insulin you will only see a hint of success if you eat the same food and in the same quantity every day.......

its just no good really in my opinion.....it can work yeah, but leaves no room for movement in terms of lifestyle.......

I was great at taking my lantus at the same time every night....my downfall was the novo rapid.

I have been diagnosed for about 7 years now and I still find it difficult to inject infront of people so when I was out and about at work or friends I had a habit of not testing and taking my insulin as I didn't want them to start asking questions about it...I would take an amount of novo rapid at nights when I took my lantus. This caused hypos during the nights and I sometimes even had double ones (not good)! I always felt tired and no energy. The doctor changed me to the novo mix as this way I would be taking 2 injections a day which sounds great to someone like me still in denial after all this time. I am considering talking to the doctor to change it back.

I went on one of those carb counting courses but found it wasn't for me...I have a poor diet and eat the same things over and over again.

carb counting courses give you the tools to manage your blood sugars even with a consistently poor diet.........I am sure it isn't that bad though.....

I suppose all I can say is that you need to get past that fear......or take yourself out of situations where you feel it is necessary to hide it...

socializing with your friends shouldn't matter.........work colleagues I suppose is different as they can be complete strangers really.......

just put it out there, you can always inject in a toilet [i know some diabetic frown upon this], but its perfectly acceptable, most just inject into their stomach or arms when out..........

how long have you been diagnosed..........?

whats your latest HbA1c......?

Yeah I am trying to be more open about it infront of people/strangers. It's a common illness now so most people are aware of it I guess. I do tend to inject in a different room out of the view of people.

I've been diagnosed for 7 years now. I think my last hba1c was about 8 or 9. But as I said before I think that's taken an average of my high sugars and low sugars.

During a meeting today I just asked others to please carry on while I did my BM test. They carried on with the meeting and so did I. Result wasn't too good at 13.3 but for me it ain't too bad.
Just carry on and do what you NEED to do - it isn't a secret illness is it.
