Maybe not a lot quicker if in by ambulance but not near imminent death!....it may depend on the area and what day of the week it is etc... when i broke my hip i was brought by ambulance, but still had to lay and wait my turn and it was still one min to 4 hrs! They knew i was Type one, in severe pain etc, but there was a cocaine overdose, a stabbing, seriously ill older people etc - it is a whole lot less stressful after you have had a number of A & E visits and know what to expect - last time i was taken in by ambulance we waited in line, as A and E was so full. I think the system, from what i have seen, is as fair as it can be with the severe pressures there are.

Don't do that Emmotha. We get so much from this forum - bits of it - and some of us know you and care what happens to you.

What happened? Did your BG just zoom up? Must have been horrid.

Last time I saw, you were basically low carbing but with blips. Me same, not many blips, but big ones over Christmas. Hope I didn't screw myself too much.

Go on, feel better and update us.

I'm still here. Yeah my question was only what should happen to us and they did see me quickly in the end anyway. All sorted but I have some protein in my urine (too much info?) so need to get that checked too
 
Same as all here Emma - hope you are feeling better today, I think the situation was stressful for you and if this was your first time in A&E then it's hard to know how you will get treated and you were simply seeking support, which is effectively what the forum offers, it would be a shame to leave on the basis of a miss-understanding and the benefits of staying here far outweigh the negatives.

As i've learnt in living with type 1 diabetes is that it is all a learning curve, and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, what happened yesterday was a rare event, so hope today you're feeling stronger, big hug :)

I can’t speak to how things are done in the UK, but here in the USA, they saw me right away when I told them my blood sugar was over 500 mg/dl (28mmol/L).

I actually felt bad because the waiting room was full (30+ people) and there were people with broken arms, a guy with a partially severed ear, and people in wheel chairs. Then here I come looking perfectly healthy, laughing and telling jokes and getting to see a doctor first.

Disclaimer: I don't want to be cynical, but it's also possible that I may have been seen first because they knew I had health insurance (our healthcare system is much different here).
 
Like others have said , i always bring all my diabetes supplies with me when going near a and e e.g gluometer , insulins , tabs , lucozade in case of hypo , water if ketones rising and usually a piece of fruit in case i get hungry. Having these with me prevents me panicing , stressing and rising sugars even more. Even when im kept in hospital i always check my own bloods and administer my own insulin/ meds. Its my diabetes and im not handing over control to a team who dont know me.

Btw was in A &E Monday (packed ) but i wasnt prioritised. My ketones were 1.1 , down from 2.6 , but i didnt feel i should be prioritused. Yes if they was rising im sure i would have been . As Dad always told me , the diabetes is a condition you have but it cant and wont stop you doing anything you want. Which includes taking my place in queue.
