Just found this thread and really sad to see folks like Andy and others of you what you are going through. Brian in spirit is always with me supporting and Andy bless is amazing. he never moans. He checks when we go out do l have my metformin in case it is needed and my meter. If l have forgotten either he worries like a dog over a bone about going home to collect it, and the fact l don't bother upsets him. l have to convince him it isnt a life threatening thing l haven't got them.

He is doing the best he can for me regards diet we have had a few mishaps and l am the one that gets ratty :( he takes it in his stride. He is the cook and pretty much eats what l have expect he has bread and roasties and things like that but l always have a huge plate of veg with some sort of meat. Another thing l am really trying to get him to do... cut down my veg portions honestly l am not starving
If l want to try a new food l have to explain that everyone or someone from here has said that it is ok to try it and that even if it shoots my BG up it is only once and l wont die or get sick with the odd overshoot.
I have made it clear at some point l intend to have a Dr Pepper and a plate of Cheesy chips and he has made it clear he will rip them out my hands and wont allow it as he wont see me getting ill. So that one we are at an impasse ove
r :p

Any appointments at Dr etc he insists on coming with me to try and understand what is going on... l then have to spend ages afterwards translating the conversation that has gone on, as his eyes have glazed over because a simple answer generally isn't good enough for me l like to understand a lot more :joyful: I have said don't bother to come but he insists that he wants to support me and understand (even though he glazes over)

My other 3/4 eats all my low carb stuff and loves it,then he eats all the high cab stuff and loves it,then he eats all the high fat stuff and loves it and then eats the low fat stuff and loves that ,he won't eat sugar free sweets though ,:DI do wonder why lol.:D

I think prior to diagnosis I'm ashamed how little I knew about diabetes, and I am trained to deal with it lol ! I never had a clue that carbs raised BG levels. I didn't know about carb counting. Although I understood hypo's, I didn't realise how common they were. I just thought people had them if they forgot to sat. There is so much to this condition that is new. I can totally understand how some partners may not appear to be supportive but it may just be lack of knowledge and not intentional in some cases.

I think you are right - it is a lack of knowledge. Sometimes, it's also a fear of change.

Why should anyone be upset about their partner going all out to correct a problem that may cause him severe medical issues if he doesn't ? She obviously doesn't understand the seriousness of type2 diabetes. And the impact on her is nothing in comparison to the impact on him if he doesn't get his diabetes under control.

I agree completely! She can't possibly understand the seriousness. Surely, that's it, as the only other alternative is that she is patently selfish and just doesn't really care about her husband.

After reading mo1905 and luceeloo's responses, I feel I must amend my original comment. It could just be that she is totally ignorant of the facts of T2 and is not being deliberately unfeeling.
