Hello group members, I have been diagnosed type 2 after been admitted into hospital in January 2020, my blood was recorded at 22.4. After been discharged seen GP he prescribed me initially Metformin but didn’t seem to bring my sugars down enough.
So now he has additionally added Gliclazide, seemed to work but stopped using it after 6-7 weeks because my sugars dropped to 3.1. This was the start of becoming Frightened taken this, you see I have had anxiety bad lately with worry of this COVID-19 and I’m not sure if it is to do with my diabetes or anxiety. I’ve never had anxiety issues before this pandemic, I’m writing this tonight because i have had about six episodes in the last seven weeks of me just lying in bed or watching TV then “Boom” heart rate jumps to 130/140 BPM For no reason feels like I’m having some sort of flush, like a warm chemical is been realised inside Of me and tingly feelings ALL the time in my hands feet also sometimes in the middle of my back.

I would love any help you could give if anyone knows what this could be. Much appreciated & thank you........

ps
Don’t Smoke or drink
Medicine I take and have been For 6yrs is OxyContin.

What was your last HBA1C? Your diet? Appears to me it's anxiety more than anything if it's coincided with Covid. The two issues MIGHT be exclusive

Have you spoken to your GP about the increase in your in heart rate?

In addition to what @Mike d asked. Have you tested your glucose levels when the heart rate shoots up? That I have found that can be a sign of blood glucose sky rocking up along with the flushed heat feeling. Perhaps you should call your GP and ask about it also.

Next time it happens, check your blood glucose monitor. If there's nothing wrong with your blood sugars (fast rises or drops), most likely it's a panic attack, considering the anxiety you mention. In itself harmless, but very, very unpleasant. As for your blood glucose, if you don't want to take gliclazide due to the hypo's (and yes, those are rather terrifying), have you tried a dietary approach? I didn't take to metformin well and was switched to gliclazide, but I could ditch both of them when I changed my diet. Have been med free and in the normal range ever since. Could well be the same'll be true for you. https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html <-- might help. Also, if you get your blood sugars under control, your anxiety should get a lot better too. Corona's not going anywhere for the time being, but you can combat the fear that goes with it some...

Hugs,
Jo

Hey

I think you should call your doctor. It's possible you have arrythmias. That mean the heart is making extra beats, or irregular beats. It can be a very frightening experience but it is a common complaint and can be fixed. It is also still possible you are having panic attacks. Both presents in same fashion. So it's important to get the accurate diagnosis. More important they can both be treated. Best wishes to you ❤️

Geordie Paul - You really won't be bothering your GP by calling him or her about this.

GPs, A&E and other medical settings are so very quiet, exactly because of the sort of thing you are saying and feeling.

Please think about this. I know the messaging we hear is to stay at home, but I feel positive your GP would want to at least have a telephone conversation with you.

This is one of those things where being safe is talking with your doctor.

GPs would far rather see someone when they are unwell rather than when they have become seriously ill - even if they can seem sniffy about it.
I can perhaps understand your heart rate going up when watching TV is it is the daily briefing from downing street, or even more so if it is the one from the US - but even if not then, it should be addressed.

Hi. It is important when taking Gliclazide to get the dose right as it stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin. First make sure you are having a low-carb diet. take the Metformin and use the Gliclazide at the lowest dose needed to control your BS. Do use a glucose meter to check how things are going and avoid a hypo.
