A question about oranges

I am expecting most of the people on this forum (particularly the ones who are controlling their diabetes with diet alone) don't eat regular fruits. I only take some berries off and on. I know Dr. Bernstein hadnt had a fruit since 40 years and he seems to be doing well for his age. What is your experience? I am not fond of other fruits but oranges for their V C value. So if you don't eat any oranges and eat a fewer veggies, is your Vitamin C level optimal from the your previous blood results?

I normally eat bell pepper and brussels sprouts to compensate for oranges but is it worth to eat oranges without having a spike (the insulin will be raised definitely). What's your take on this please?

@finsit this forum is not just for people with type 2 or people following a low carb diet to manage their diabetes. Therefore, I suspect there are a fair number of us who regularly eat fruit.

I eat fruit most days but I have the tool to limit the rise - insulin.
I appreciate this is different for someone managing their type 2 via diet but in your position I would test to find out what the impact is on your blood sugars with a small orange such as a clementine and decide whether you are able to tolerate it and whether the lack of variety in your diet is causing problems - remember, you need to manage all of your body, not just the diabetes.

Totally personal choice. Personally I don’t touch ‘em but that’s because of my history of having a vandalised metabolism that I’d prefer to keep at arms length in the rear view mirror forever. Others have different experiences. My main caution with fruit for type 2 diabetes is not so much the immediate glucose challenge, but the longer term potentially liver-stressing properties of fructose which may increase hepatic insulin resistance. Beef liver is a good source of vitamin C FYI.

Strawberries are high in vitamin C and good for the heart.

I adore grapefruit, so have one every other week with yogurt, pecans and chia seeds for sunday 11's and coffee...
and it rules out statins. Huzza

I eat citrus fruit but most times it is not the whole fruit, I have been eating locally grow mandarins as they are in season at the moment.

Half a small one has no effect on me, these are mini mandarins that are on sale for kids to eat at one ot the major supermarkets here.

I have a small satsuma a few times a week with a low carb breakfast and doesn't seem to effect blood sugars.

I eat these pretty regularly, after a walk or exercise. I also eat a lot of berries
