My diabetic nurse was horrified to hear that I eat a jar of peanut butter a week ,,,,,,,, is that excessive?
Is there a healthy alternative?
I have to keep a jar in my drawer , and some times spoon it in ! as its a quick healthy fix when feeling wobbly .
Any one else do the same ?
I cant get enough of it
I thought a jar a week was ok ! I do have it on ryvita !!! so a healthy option ,

HBA1C 6.4 Diet only .

Lets face it yoda most hcp's are horrified if you breath fresh air !

Lovely stuff peanut butter, easy on the ryvita though ! I like it with lashings of sea salt.

Good hba1c ! well done.

Try not to pay too much attention to the medics, they are only drumming up business just like everybody else !

Good luck, be happy

Me TOO!

Nursey told me peanut butter was bad and pasta, rice and mashed potato were 'Good',I eat a whole jar of 'Whole earth no added sugar peanut butter' a week and I find it good with my levels and I often eat it straight out of the jar when I need a savoury fix! :D

In my experience,Nursey was wrong, peanut butter is GREAT wheras her rice, pasta, potatos, porridge and bread diet would spike and keep my BG's in the 20's!

Best wishes

Paul(a fellow peanut butter lover) :D

I do like Britanny or Normandy butter myself, it's those crunchy bits of sea salt. It's sort of lost on a ryvita though.

I love peanut butter and at the height of my 'addiction' I would eat 2/3 jars a week, just spooning it out of the jar! Although I don't like salt I love the taste of it in peanut butter. I also like peanut butter mixed with ice cream - lush!

Thanks , I will look out for the whole earth variety ,peanut butter keeps me energised for longer .
I am getting there , thanks for your feedback all !
One last thought , try peanut butter on HOT toast , then .........sliced banana TRY IT !!!!!

I'm not such a fan of peanut butter, but I'm addicted to an almond, brazil and cashew mix butter that I eat by the spoonful.

Don't mind it but not something I could eat everyday, much prefer Marmite on my toast.

I get through loads of the whole earth stuff as well, it's easy calories for me as I'm trying to pack the muscle back on I lost after being diagnosed.

Stu.

Strange, I too developed a craving for peanut butter post diagnosis.

Maybe there is something in it that our bodies crave after we've developed the condition?

Confession- occasionally I'll spread some lowish carb jam on a slice of burgen bread and put some peanut butter on it - the erstwhile 'peanut butter and jelly sandwich' of American fame.

As always, it's about testing and seeing how much the food affects your levels. Thankfully I don't have big spikes of peanut butter.

Great , Whole Earth , no added sugar peanut butter is the way forward , bought some .thanks Paul !!!!!

Peanut butter on toast with Marmite, mmmmmm. I've even got Marmite with sparkly gold bits in - how posh am I then???????

I love peanut butter too, especially when combined with sambal oelek (hot chilli paste). Lovely!

For those who look at the carb contents...Sainsbury's Basic Range crunchy peanut butter 'apparently' only contains 3.9g carbs per 100g. I questioned this twice, as other brands are much higher in carbs, but they insist the stated carb content is correct? Still sceptical to be honest. But anyway, the taste is pretty good, plus nice and cheap of course.

Peanut butter HAS to be eaten on fresh WHITE bread. Preferably tiger (or giraffe!) bread.

Hmmm..
