Hi I’ve just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, shock scarred is the understatement My bloods came back as 100!! Yes high. The Diabetic Gp ran through about what to swap vegs with but my own Gp just said smaller potions and exercise more. I’m so confused I’m frightened to eat and now haven’t got a clue on if I have porridge for breakfast can I have a sandwich for lunch? As well. Do I have to have snacks and what should I have. I have bought a blood meter Any advice would be appreciated. thank you

Meat, fish, eggs, dairy.. green veg and salad if you like.
Eggs and bacon for breakfast or coffee with double cream.
Do that for a few months.

Excellent work, getting yourself a meter! https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/ <-- this should help with what to eat, and how to use your meter effectively.

You're going to be fine, even if that is hard to believe at this point in time. T2 can be managed, and managed well. Just stay away from the porridge and sandwiches. Bulk is right, eggs with bacon'll see you through. Your meter'll agree.

Any form of eggs (without toast) is a good start to the day. I used to have boiled eggs and would do 2days worth at a time.
Cheese or cold cuts of meat/fish are also good.

Since I got 'fat adapted' I stopped eating a 'breakfast', lunch or 'linner' is now my first/only meal. That plus cutting out snacks really supercharged my HbA1C reduction and kept my weight loss going.

If you prefer something a little different then a handful of berries (any type of fruit with berry in the name) with some full fat plain greek style yogurt can be a nice change as a breakfast or a desert.

Welcome to the club. Porridge or sandwiches wouldn't work for me, at all. There is low carb bread around - try

What they do is expensive but low carb. They also do a porridge which is not to my taste (and I liked porridge) but you might find it OK. This below is a note on what helped me in my first year - I think the most important thing is clearing your mind of all the assumptions about what is "healthy" and what's not.

Don't panic. It can be turned around. You do have to want to do it, it won't just happen and nobody else will do it for you.
