Hi I have just joined this forum> Please can anyone help I have been a type 2 diabetic for some time now (over 10 years) and have recently started to loose lots of wieght. I have lost over 3 stone in less than a year, and have more recently started to get severe pain in my legs arms and feet. I do intend visiting my doctor about this but wondered if anyone had an idea. Thanks (mick)

Hi
Pains in your leg and feet (is it around the sock/stocking area?) can often be signs of neuropathy which as you know is a complication of diabetes. Peripheral neuropathy being most likely

I dont know if this would be related to weight loss per se, unless that weight loss has reduced some of your insulin resistance and your bg is now looking better or your control is tighter as a result.

As well as being a complication generally (which, btw can be reversed in part with tighter control) if you are running better bg then sometimes as your control tightens and the damage starts to reverse then you can get pain as the nerves heal.

Only you will know what camp your are in at present!
However, dont ignore it, go to Doc as you can get meds to help if if is the beginning of complications., However dont assume that meds will solve it all, thats just symptom management, and it would be better to find ways to reverse it if it is emerging neuropathy!

Also, could be something else but as a T2 for ten years (and most are T2 for years before diagnosis) then it seems most likely

HOpe this helps

No one should be attempting to provide a diagnosis of the symptoms that you post (and it's against the forum rules).

I would strongly advise you to see your GP without delay.

Hi Ian

Not attempting diagnosis

I believe the phrase 'can often be' suggests advice and not diagnosis
Also, most likely was referring to IF it is neuropathy then its consistent with peripheral
I also advised him to attend GP

Apologies to the poster if this is misinterpreted otherwise

Lilibet.
Having read and discussed your post we are satisfied it does NOT break forum rules. Your assertion is correct. Therefore the post will remain as it is.

The combination of losing 3 stones without effort and getting pains in your hands and feet suggests that your pancreas is no longer producing enough insulin resulting in high blood sugars. You then pee out the sugar resulting in a calorie deficit and produce weight loss. The high blood sugars cause nerve damage which gives pain and numbness.

You certainly do need to see your GP and if what I think is going on, is going on, you may find yourself on more medication and perhaps insulin injections.

I expect that everyone's GP will have loads of people wanting to see them after the holidays. You are one of them who really needs to see them.
