Since the nurse seems to be making up stuff as she goes along, I think I'd be asking for a review of any notes she put on your record with the GP - gawd only knows what BS she's told him and if you don't dispute it, it could be on your record for who knows how long?

@Energize If you hadn't mentioned Cambridge, I'd have thought you were attending my local surgery. Well that probably means our DN's are blood-relatives or clones.
After our last meeting, which went virtually the same as yours (bearing in mind I had lost weight , lowered cholesterol, lowered BP and flattened my sugar from 104 to 41!!) she snorted and harrumphed her way through her routine. Her blood-letting was unnecessarily rough and painful and her manner abrupt. I won't be seeing her again and I won't be giving an explanation that may end up in my notes....

Hi

Yes, it seems so many of these 'professionals' have 'attitude'. Do they feel threatened, or what? I've had a look at the surgery's web page and checked out the staff. Yes, she's there but not given title of 'Diabetes Nurse' or anything but maybe they don't. Also, where it lists the person's interests, Diabetes is NOT included. Maybe she was filling in for someone, or maybe some of the exerienced (with diabetes) have left - I can't see another 'Diabetes Nurse' on the website any more.

Whatever, her attitude was not good, in my mind. Sorry you are amongst so many of us who have little support but plenty of 'attitude'. I'm hoping my GP will 'listen' to what I have to say etc when I see him next week. ;)

Please note... in my last GP Practice we supposedly had a GP nominated to look after the diabetics... this was not a choice, it was not his interest. Somebody had to do it.... the other partners amongst the partners at the GP vvoted for him.

He was no more interested in diabetics than joe bloggs on the street....

Not saying that all practices run like this but it is worthwhile thinking about it for GPs.

My current practice has the diabetic nurse that has left and the new nurse to take over has no diabetes knowledge and is being trained up...

My diabetes manager at my first hospital here was a temporary person taken on with no diabetes knowledge at all. She was taken on for a 6 month role when they had no applicants for the full time post.

Please do not expect diabetes in front of a job title to mean a specialist in diabetes...

Thanks for keeping this in perspective, donnellysdogs ;) It had occured to me that the nurse could have been standing in for someone, of course. It seemed that the nurse was trying to do everything 'right' and, to do that, she was just recording the 'numbers'. There was nothing to suggest she was knowledgeable re diabetes so there could have been a reason for her manner. I didn't consider this until a couple of days afterwards and that could certainly explain her manner, I think. However, I still came away very disappointed with the appointment.

It will be interesting to hear what the GP has to say when I see him next week.
