After just over 2 years on a low carb diet, lots of weight-lifting, this forum and prayer at church my doctor has said that I am no longer diabetic!! My last A1c was 6.2 and was the 4th in a row below the 'danger line' in Canada of 6.5. If my next A1c is still in the non-diabetic range (January 2021) my final diabetic medication will end. The single 500 mg Metformin only remains because my doctor wanted the dose to continue reducing slowly. So it took about 12 years to go from 1x500 mg Metformin to 62 units of insulin plus 2000 mg Metformin plus other medication then just over 2 years to get back to the original medication.
My hope and prayer is that others will hear of, and start the low carb programme, as soon as they are diagnosed as late onset, non-obese, (inherited?) diabetes so that big pharma don't get to control 'progress' of this 'incurable', supposedly recessive condition.

Congratulations what a fantastic outcome for your efforts!

I've only recently started the first phase intense low-cal, low-carb battle (now week 7 of 12) - good results so far. Hope to follow in your magnificent footsteps! :)

Terrific OzBlossom. Keep up what you are doing and if possible add some intense exercise. I understand this forces the glucose into the muscles and the muscles remember why the glucose, now at a lower level, is there and relearns how to absorb it with the help of a lower internal insulin level.

You must be thoroughly delighted with your success after 12 years of hard work. Huge congratulations and thank you so much and God bless you for sharing.

Thanks ianpspurs (not Tottenham I hope?). The 12 years was just following the 'easy' way of the doctors' orders. When my diabetic 'specialist' told me in May of 2018, "I cannot do anything more for you, you are on your own." Thank God I wasn't, since all the specialist did was to say I needed an ever increasing dose of insulin.

Sorry about the very poor help from the specialist - and the not Tottenham quote. You dealt with the specialist issue but I'm afraid many are beyond help when it comes to seeing the romance of being a Spurs follower. It's the hope that kills.

Congratulations, a great achievement! A great story of hope for others too.

And definitely no Spurs here!

Well done @Stephen Lewis.

Stories like yours are important, for your peers who have been diagnosed a while.

Most of us managing remission/cure/whatever have done so close to diagnosis, which is an achievement in itself, but to so significantly improve the metabolic dysregulation after some years, including heavy duty medication is quite some message of hope for others.

I wonder if you might consider tweaking the title of your thread to reflect the journey you have been on? It might help others like you, undertaking a Google or site search, at a point they feel ready to try something else?

To be clear, there is absolutely zero wrong with your thread as it is if you don't want any change. If you want a change and can't quite get there yourself, any Mod could help with the edit.

But, back to your thread. Massive well done from me!
