I was given a diaagnosis of diabetes before xmas as my BG were 24 but since then my Blood sugars have dropped dramatically down to an average of 6.

They prescribed me originally with 160mg but now I am down to taking 40mg of gliclazide in a morning and 40mg in an evening, It does seem to be very strange to me that my levels have dropped so much in the space of a month. I haven't really changed that much with my diet other than no longer eating cereal and avoiding sugary things, although I never had much anyhow.

I was tested for type one but all those came back negative. When I was orginally tested, the week before I had been suffering from a virus, could this have affected the results perhaps.

I was really worried whilst waiting for the tests to come back but I am so releaved that I aren't type 1.

It's all a bit of puzzle to me, but as with everything in the NHS its so slow to get anything from them, I aren't due to see the consultant until march.

I was just thinking that perhaps I have been wrongly diagnosed.

hi, this isnt very useful because my answer is "i dont know" but i never heard of anyone being misdiagnosed with numbers that high, but i hope you will be the first, in fact ive heard of a type misdiagnosis but never an actual misdiagnosis, but others know more than me, this will bump up your question, i hope someone else has heard of this, fingers crossed for you, best of luck

Don't forget, your average of 6 is achieved with the aid of gliclazide. You'd be higher without it and higher puts you in the diabetic zone.

However, to have got it down to 6 is good and to do with with such a small change in diet is very good. Just imagine if you tried harder. You might be able to further reduce your gliclazide. Give it a go, you've nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Your figure of 24 is pretty conclusive for diabetes. Yes, as Yorksman says, the Gliclazide appears to be working on the pancreas. People react very differently to Gliclazide depending on the state of their pancreas. Do you have a reasonably good BMI?

My answer too is "I don't know! Try using diet to lower your BG and Gliclazide requirement.
You may get to a no - Glic state AND better BG state, then you can worry about being non D!

Hi

I am making these comments with no medical backing, but I can speak for experiance. I was diagnosed with type 1 3 years ago at the age of 29. My BG's were 32. I can honestly day that if you are getting blurred vision, peeing a lot, weight loss and feel generally rubbish you will be diabetic.

However, the penny did not drop with me for a few months, so you may have picked up the signs early and you BG's being high then low May mean that your pancreas pis in a honeymoon stage. Ie. working one minute and not the next.

Overall, keep an eye on it. Being type 1 is fine, you just need to keep on top of it and it is managble. My advise. If you net diabetic then great news, if you are stick close to your nurse, do as they ask and take their advise. C
Don't do silly diets and test test test all the time.

Good luck. Hope this helps.
