Hi Sue

As Twinkle says - go see your GP. If you are diabetic - it would be most likely Type 2, not Type 1 - the sooner you get control of it the better. Strange to say, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me - I'm in control of it and I've lost weight, which has to be a big plus!

Let us know what the verdict is - if you're not diabetic we'll cheer, if you are, then you're among friends and we'll all help and support you as much as you like.

Yes. If you had been formally tested with approved equipment then those figures would qualify you as diabetic. You do need the tests to be done at the surgery though.

Thank you for your help i will make an appointment which will take a few weeks no doubt ,at least that gives my bloods time to either settle down or not ? sue x

Help Please once again , i have now been going back and forth to my doctors, with symptoms of thirst tired up to the toilet 3 or 4 times a night , had a HbA1c end of jan this year came back as 46 had another HbA1c last week 39 .i have tested my blood 2 hours after my evening meals and they come out at between 9.0 and 10.5 over the last few weeks ,please could anyone clear this up as my doctor isnt very bothered i just want to settle as im worried i may be diabetic and eating all the wrong things xx Sue

You sound exactly like me (I've ranted all over the board now...) similar numbers and the doctor doesn't really care.

Be stronger than me and INSIST on getting checked out again and pointing out the numbers are not normal. Maybe they'll listen to you as air' assuming your'e older and come on, your daughter has type 1. I'm praying you get yourself sorted out and wish both you and your daughter peace and happiness. In a way my sudden issues have helped me understand my grandma and how she behaves when she's hypo/hyperglycemic- hopefully there will be some positive out of this? Healthier lifestyle choices?

Don't be a pushover, make them listen to you. It'll be better for everyone if you catch this stuff early. Xxxxxxxx

Hi Sue,

Blood glucose levels in a non-diabetic should be in the 4-7 mmol/l range, but the full range can be from as low as 3.5 to as high as around 8.

But ten is not good. Tens don't happen to non-diabetics. Just no. Go to your doctor again, or better yet, go to another doctor who's actually bothered to diagnose you for something as serious as diabetes.

And although I said ten is not good, it could be a lot worse. When I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a six-year-old (18 now), I was past the honeymoon phase. When I went into hospital first, I was 30 mmol/l.

Deal with it soon, knowing it can be dealt with. Best wishes for the future,

Isobel.

Thank you so much for all your advice ,i will go to another doctor at the centre now i have more information ,it was 28 years ago that my daughter became diabetic so lost involvment when she became an adult she was type 1 so different than some of my symptoms , Are the Hba1c of 46 in jan and 39 last week a confirmation of diabeties ?? Sue xx

My brother periodically has a very sweet smell from his breath. Tested him on my meter fasting and after food. Went with him to doc and all was well. Asked about pre diabetes and was told that it would show levels of 9 to 11.
