Just had my results back from gp. Diagnosed 9 weeks ago hba1c 112 total cholesterol 5.6 - I was a bit of a mess! Current hba1c 68 total cholesterol 3.2 - liver and kidney results normal but will get the full breakdown next week at my first dn appointment. OK so still a way to go but if I hadn't had this forum I really don't think it would be going so well. Thank you all of you xx

Wow, great start only 9 weeks in and HBA1C covers the last 12 weeks on average so some of the result will relate to a month pre diagnosis

I'm 8 weeks behind you having been diagnosed last week. Your retest results sound brilliant, what have you done to achieve these?

My GP has asked for a retest after 8 weeks, so I had figured it won't be the complete picture. I guess they just need to see you're going in the right direction?

I haven't worked out how to tag via my phone but in reply to Rachox
Firstly I Googled then found my way here, I decided that as years of low cal and low fat diets had only worked in the short term and realising I had been dependent on carbs and fruits, I decided low carb and healthy fats were worth a try. I went through the kitchen like a woman possesed and gave away anything that didn't fit. I did have porridge every day to start with but once I got my meter and saw a rise of 5 after 2 hours then that went. I followed the diet doctor 2 week challenge which has helped portion size, if I feel the need to snack then first I drink water then if half an hour later I still want something then I do, I cook 'normal' food for my son (grown up but with aspergers so still at home) but accept that for now my food is different. I have tried fasting but at the moment it sends my bg ridiculously high so maybe that will help once I've lost some more weight (got a set of scales both for the kitchen and the bathroom! Lost 2 kg last week without trying) haven't felt hungry. I wouldn't be without my meter as it both informs my choices and reassures my decisions!
I'm new to this but if there is anything I can help you with just ask x

Thanks for your reply. Sounds like I'm on the right track then. I'm doing low carbs too as suggested by this page. I've also been through my cupboards, reading all the labels! I've been trying to drink more water and have bought a meter and some bathroom scales. Unlike you I've never been a breakfast person but am learning to enjoy scrambled eggs as breakfast as before I only ever ate them for lunch! I've lost some weight already, not sure how much is due to my scales differing from the GP's but I'm going to need a belt for my jeans soon!
