Andy Kliman stated : My point has been that diabetic patients, and others with long-term conditions, represent a bigger risk to the budget of these consortia because they are more likely to end up in the hospital than others – and this costs money. So too many diabetics on your books (GP lists) could be costly.
That is from the Blog.....just one of many on the Net that gives an opinion. From someone who is part of that wonderful organisation DUK. Good in parts...... Certainly not an organisation I have a great deal of time for because they are part of the problem ! They certainly don't speak for me and I am not interested in their Blog's either.
Now there are many of us that followed the DUK/NHS dietary advice which as I found after 10 years was virtually killing me ! Not an exaggeration. I did end up in Hospital because of that self same advice. So I would ask Mr Kliman if you are so concerned about Diabetic's ending up in Hospital........why don't you and DUK do something about it and give out dietary advice which DOESN'T lead to people progressing towards a Hospital bed. Stop posting high carb recipes which are patently a bad thing for Diabetic's.
Tell people as we do here on DCUK that there isn't just one way of controlling Diabetes, give out some good basic advice. Why don't you tell them that they can't just eat anything just because it is supposed to be Low GI and low in Calories. Promoting your flawed advice on the X-Pert Course which tells Type 2's that a level of 10 mmol/l throughout the day is fine for them. Advice that is outdated and can be detrimental to a person's health. Stop pushing your flawed information about a suitable diet to ALL Diabetic's that it is safe and healthy to eat all the things that a non-Diabetic would in equal measure.......those things are just NOT true and may be bad for many Diabetic's. I was one of them.
I think that many people now realise or are beginning to realise that too many carbs leads to progression of Diabetes, however if you listen to DUK you wouldn't think so. If we reduce those carbs to a more reasonable amount we see many who are avoiding progression, reversing the symptoms of Diabetes, reducing and keeping better Bg levels, avoiding complications, reducing or doing away with medications.
That's what I want to see from DUK (I'm a Member) not some pontificating now about NHS Health reforms. Show me that you are questioning the advice from your own organisation DUK that is one of the causes of the escalating costs of Diabetes.........that is of more interest to me.
