Raw tomatoes and arrogant people.
Well, i have been testing and sticking to my diet, gluten free and reduced carbs and yesterday i got a 6.2 reading 2 hours from eating and today down to 5.6 which is fantastic. Obviously Christmas did get in the way of things and tests were a bit higher but back on the wagon again.
This last test was the lowest since diagnosed in July and with no meds. Well pleased. Long may it continue.

Congratulations Mothman, sounds as though your regime is working for you

jolly well done mothman :D :D

It so hard sometimes to stick to what we have to but just so so satisfying when a plan comes together!

You must be well pleased with that :D

Thanks guys,

ime feeling really chuffed, especially as it was advice from this forum and people like yourselves who gave me the heads up re carbs. No advice from the NHS whatsoever and i would have thought it was in their interests to give said advice.

Thank you all very much, you are all really good guys n gals. :D

That's great news. Well done :)

Congratulations Mothman! Knew you would do it! The worst thing about Christmas for me was not the temptation of all the naughty foods but the interruption to routine . Visitors and visiting , eaing at odd imes , having my exercise regime interrupted..

Its someimes diffficult to explain what is necessary o others. still it only comes once a year..

keep up the good work!

Funny thing that though is i dont actually do any excercise. Walk the dogs regularly, another one due Sunday as the oldest died Saturday [very sad] but as i work physically for a living never gave it a thought that i should do more.
For example, during the Christmas hols, i cut down 4 bloody great Leylandii close to the house, dragged everything to the bonfire and logged all the trunks. Was too knackered to take said dogs for their walk and didnt feel any aches n pains next day. They were ****** at me mind you.
If i give up my day job, then maybe i will have to exert myself more. Walk miles during the summer following lawnmowers about.
Over Christmas i had just 4 gluten free mince pies and 4 roast potatoes, nothing more, didnt find that hard, just had more veggies instead. Sorry, sounding like a Saint, which i aint, just getting used to it.
Thank you all once again.

Hi there

Just joined this site and omg wish i had joined a long time ago. I must just say well done to you Andy for your great results. How does low carbs work i always thought as diabetic u have to have carbs in your diet all the time???

I dont think I know enough considering I have been diabetic type 2 oral meds for 9 yrs!!! dont have a diabetic nurse...wish I did!!!

Thankyou for any help.

Nikki

Hi Nikki,

i am only a beginner here myself, not long being diagnosed. There are far more members better versed in diabetes control than myself who can help you but i have taken note of what many have said both to me and by going over this forum. Reduce carbohydrate intake, blood sugars will go down. That seems to be the rule and it has worked for me. i went gluten free in August, not just because of the diabetes but bread/wheat was making me feel sick, has been doing so for a long time and within a few weeks my testing went from an average of 13 .8 to about 7.5 without reducing carbs. Started carb reduction in November, lost 11 lb since then and had my best blood tests today. Takes a little time to settle down but ime very happy with this. I too havnt seen a nurse, going to soon and i expect to challenge her a bit, we shall see. good luck anyway and please trawl this forum for info and dont be afraid to ask any question, however silly you think it might be as i can assure you it wont be and you will get some of the best advice available.

Best wishes

andy

Well done Andy.
It's brilliant to get readings like that at any time but even more of an achievement at Christmas

Nikki, look at Daisy's posts on greetings section for new members. Lots of good info there you won't get from your gp

You certainly don't need to take any formal exercise. I am sure you must be more physically active than many who do.
I am retired now and it is very easy o get bogged down in housework etc so I make a point of a daily long brisk walk. Housework however strnuous and climbing hills locally only seem to raise my levels. A good long walk "on he flat" really helps to keep them in check.

Spoilt it all tonight guys n gals,

Just had to have a lamb curry with brown rice and it was great. First 'collapse' for a month but just had to have it. Ummed and erred about it all afternoon but decided i needed a treat. Wont do it again for a month but i feel it was worth it.

Andy

The lamb curry : Great, mouth watering already. 8)
The brown rice: for some people, too much carbs, too high BS
And for some Aberdonians the lamb curry would be akin to cannibalism :lolno:
