Another illinformed HCP

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

I will see what the DN says when i see her at 11.45. If i'm not happy then i will just go along to the centre and like you say Sid explain everything and hope i get seen.

If I was you I'd call an ambulance and tell them that you are now also having chest pains, they will have to check your heart then to make sure there is nothing wrong.

Wow - I just want to jump in here; that is spectacularly bad advice. Are you seriously suggesting someone calls 999 and lies to them about symptoms??? The OP didn't mention chest pains. You might have had chest pains at some point, but you should try and remember that you are not the OP.

I'm lost for words, and no-one seems to have batted an eyelid.

Really, that is appalling, think of the consequences of that sort of behaviour.

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

Hi, claire, just a thought! write down all the things you feel should be looked at like your new start on insulin, past tooth/dental probs and high BP and your possible water infection, your spiked BS levels plus tell them how you are feeling. Hopefully they will end up giving you a full MOT and find out what is most likely the cause of all this. Then you will get some positive solution to this for your own peace of mind. They really shouldnt leave you untreated correctly, try asking DN for some dip sticks when you see her. Let us know how you go on too. Anna.x :)

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

I have a little book with everything written down in Anna. I will be asking the DN if i can have some ketosticks or similar and will let everyone know how i get on :)

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

Sorry to hear about this Claire, no advice but just wanted to send good wishes in getting everything sorted out :)

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

Hi Claire,

Hope it goes well at the GPs.
Like Dillinger,I am not in favour of claiming chest pains, if you don't have them, but I would go along to the Diabetes clinic, department whatever, and basically plead to be seen. I am not really someone who would dream of shouting at Drs and nurses, but I would not be above having a good cry in the waiting room, and trying to get the sympathy appointment. After what you have been through recently, they definately need to treat you with a little TLC!

Nice posts Dillinger, I'm certain that the OP appreciates you "jumping in there" shoving compassion to what she went through at the A&E.

A friend of my sisters complained about chest pains, she was told it was "hear burn" and sent home. A few months later she felt sick in the car and asked the driver to stop the car. She got out of the car to be sick and fell over dead from a massive heart attack.

Yes, consequences can cost lives and we should always think of the consequences of telling little lies so that our lives may be saved.

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

While I have every sympathy for the way Clare was treated in A&E and really can't add any more to the good advice everyone has given I really do have to agree with Dilinger regarding saying someone has chest pains when they haven't- this isn't a little lie and can actually put others in danger - those who do need an emergency ambulance for things such a real chest pains or an accident and are delayed treatment.

I am sorry your friend suffered so Ka- mon it's a very sad story and shouldn't have happened :(

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

I've never had to lie about my illnesses but the some Doctors actions and misdiagnoses sometimes forces their patients to tell little lies or suffer the consequences of their mistakes.

Anyway, it's up to each individual to decide whether to take what I say seriously or laugh at it, it's just an advice, nothing else.

One thing is for certain though, when suffering something as serious as the OP describes there really may not be enough time to play heroics.

Thanks lovinglife, it is very sad and she could have been saved had the Doctor done his job right.

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

I have now seen the DN. She has said the Dr i saw in A&E obviously knows diddly about diabetes and was talking utter rubbish. She said insulin would not make me feel like this and advised, looking at my readings,to increase my dose before breakfast and evening meal to 12 units.
She took my BP again and it was high 180/110. She said i can't go on like this especially as it is impacting on my life so much and with the risks involved. She is also worried about the high spikes i get. She mentioned adrenal problems and a possible tumor. She can't do anything herself re my BP but has booked a phone consultation for me tomorrow with my GP. If i feel any worse i am to phone NHS Direct or go back to A&E.

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

Thank goodness things are getting sorted Claire.

I know from personal experience how high BP can make you feel.

Keep us up to date.

I agree with you there; I certainly think most of what you post laughable and in truth when you say 'it's just an (sic) advice, nothing else' I think you are overstating it; it's barely advice.

What ever you say however, it doesn't escape the fact that your 'advice' is absolutely appalling; people die because ambulances are out on non emergency calls. It's not good enough to then say 'I was only joking' or what ever it is you are saying above, when you are challenged on it .

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

Thats more like it Claire, glad to hear things are being done.

Keep your chip up and things will seem a lot better once your bp is under control :D

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

Claire, Good to hear that the nurse has been able to help a little. I have my fingers crossed that they can sort you out as soon as possible.

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

Thanks all :D
Started to get a racing heart and felt worse earlier so called NHS Direct. They said to ring the Drs, say i had spoken to them and ask to be seen today and if i couldn't be seen to go to A&E. I phoned the Drs, got put on hold and then they cut me off :o Have tried phoning again and all i get is your in a queue there are 7 people infront of you, i hung on for over 20 minutes and it still said the same. Am waiting for my hubby to come back from work and if still feel awful will go to A&E again.

Re: Another illinformed HCP.

As one that has well over his fair share of 999 calls ,,Being high risk I have Emg call button around my neck, I'm always worried if I should hit it or not ,, Ambulance crews have told me off twice Now  For not hitting the button Sooner. And would rather come out find ,things are OK, Than leave it too late

They have always carted me off like it or not :?

last one ,,i was on the phone to NHS direct they sent for the Ambulance :!:

So if you are at your wits End
Phone NHS direct they will call a Ambulance for you if needed
can also put a nurse or doc on the phone to ask you questions

Hope you get sorted

Bob

At last someone who cares and knows what he/she is talking about. Fingers crossed they'll sort it out soon.

I find advising people not take their Doctors advice and refuse medication and listen to some (professional and non-professional) members here who think they know better more appalling then telling a little lie.

Like bowel I too was told off a few times by ambulance crews and Doctors for not calling for help earlier.

Anyway, if you think that most of what I write is laughable and want to make things more personal then I suggest that you start another thread instead of high-jacking this one where you have shown absolutely no interest and/or compassion for the OP's sufferings.

I will not reply to you in this thread any more. Do the right thing and let us take it somewhere else or PM me if you want to take this further.
