Another Newbie recently diagnosed

On the other hand, just to throw a spanner in the works, when they’re on sale I buy white/green grapes and eat 5 as a snack in the evening and my blood glucose as reported by CGM and finger pricks stays the same. I guess they effect different people differently either because of meds or metabolism???
Could be! It’s literally the only sweet thing I eat, I’ve never been one for sweets & chocolate so avoiding those is easy for me. When someone puts a bag of walkers Cheese & Onion in front of me though, it’s over haha!!

FWIW, my deep love of crisps vanished when I started adding olive oil, butter and salt to my diet. All along I thought it was the crisps I craved, while my body was screaming for nutrition. Beforehand I'd been suckered into the propaganda about fats and salt being baaaaad for us.

My BG is 10.8 this morning so a protein shake for breakfast it is lol.
Just to make sure, have you checked the package to see how many carbs your shake has?
I never had such shakes but I think they can vary in the amount of carbs.

Also, do you like those shakes? If so, and if they're not too carby, by all means go ahead and use them for breakfast. But if you don't like them too much you might want to look into low carb breakfasts you actually enjoy. ;)

They are my one downfall lol, In regards to salt I have to be careful as I’m also now on tablets for high cholesterol too since I’ve been dx diabetic.

I’m realising I need to take baby steps to get my head around it all. Particularly all the things I’ve always regarded as healthy being not so great for me anymore.

I’m at the stage where I’m thinking I just need to be shoved in a cupboard with a cauliflower to eat haha!

I have to add salt to my meals several times a week now as I was getting cramps as soon as the weather warmed.
Low carb foods are often salt free, unlike anything processed, and we do need salt.

As the others have said though it’s not just sweet things that will raise your levels but starchy ones too. So that’s potatoes of all colours and types, parsnip, rice, pasta, bread, cereals and grains etc

They will definitely Have done it then, I feel like diabetes is sucking the life out of me right now lol
Just think of all the other things that seemed off-limits until now. Bacon, steak... ;) And I do adore a good bar of extra dark chocolate. Since my palette changed, the flavours go so much deeper.

And you don't have to respond to grapes the way I do. Just saying, it's possible. Your meter'll tell you.
