Hi, so my wife has had type 1 diabetes for the last 10 years her hbac1 levels have been high always around the 81 mark last week she went to the doctors and her test came back the same does anyone know how to lower the hbac1 level ideally its needs to be around the 60, 56 mark what is a realistic time frame to see it drop also her levels always spike during the night this morning she woke up and her levels were 22 please any help is needed

Hello and welcome @Joel19899 :)

Is there any chance your wife could join here ? It would help to know more about her daily routine, insulin regime and testing.

Has she done Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating course and does she have access to a diabetes nurse ?

Getting a copy of 'think like a pancreas' written by a type 1 is also an incredibly useful book to read.

She can reduce her HbA1c but it's very much down to reviewing her whole management and seeing where tweaks can be made hence why my comment about asking her to join here, as members can share tips on what's worked for them.

Hello and welcome. To help you and your wife could you say what treatment regime your wife has and her specific problems, please. This will aid our T1 members enormously.

Hi @Joel19899 Welcome to the Forum. It would help to know what kind of Insulin treatment your wife is on, even though we cannot advise dosages. Does she work out her carbohydrate intake and dose accordingly? If you could give us some idea of both these factors I am sure several people will volunteer broad suggestions rather than specific details. All the best

The above hadn't appeared when I typed this!

Hi @Joel19899, Welcome from someone who has been on insulin for 52 years here in Australia.
Yes, you have joined an international forum and brains trust expertly birthed, managed and maintained
in your home country!! And with the magic of the internet we will not need to try to understand each other's accent !!
Thank you for posting on behalf of your wife. You are a great support for her in doing this.
Ideally if she would also join as @Juicyj has suggested, and any details you both can provide will help us all
to best help your concerns as @Guzzler has suggested.
Best to ask your wife's permission to provide these details or if she would provide them herself.
Sometimes people like to answer some but not all of these questions at once. That is OK.
Once she and you feel more confident about this you may wish to answer other questions later.
Whilst we on site are not qualified to give professional advice or opinions, collectively we have lots of
different experience to share and offer and give suggestions, in order to help you both to find the way forward.
What insulins (brands and doses and times.)? and ? by pen or insulin pump?
What foods do you eat on a usual day - type, amount and times
What type of meter do you use to check blood sugar levels (BSLs) and
when and how often do you test BSLs
Any other health conditions, health troubles at the moment ?
Do you see a Diabetes Nurse and a Specialist doctor as well as your GP?
Apologies for the 'list' - we really would like to help as best we can.
Best Wishes and hoping to hear soon from you both. :):):)

Hi
I take insulotard as my slow releasing insulin I take 15 units and novorapid for food on 1 unit to every 10g carbs these are both by an insulin pen. The type of machine I have to check my blood sugar levels is a contour don't have any other health problems I see a diabetic consultant every 3-5 months but they aren't helping and all they suggest is pit your slow releasing insulin up by a unit... i test my levels around 3-4 times a day and they are pretty stable once I get my morning reading under control however this isn't improving my HB1c reading.

Hello @Jordan1990 and welcome :) It's much better if you start a new thread as you'll get more replies. Click 'forum ---> Find the sub forum that suits the topic best and click the button in the top right hand corner, as far as I remember. Finding your way around here takes a little time.
Also, please let us know which type diabetes you have, and all the relevant details you can think of.
