Anyone know of Linux Software for Carsens meter?

As the title says.
I have had the Caresens for ever and used to get the data onto a windows computer as .csv.
But my windows died and the new computer has Linux.
And I want to do the same.

Any help appreciated.

You could probably run it through WINE (https://www.pcworld.com/article/2091356/how-to-use-windows-software-in-linux.html - I don't know how good that link is, but it should give you an overview.)

Someone may well have reverse engineered the protocol too and written a Linux-native app, but I didn't see anything with a quick Google search (though this isn't unheard of, these things are not very popular in the grand scheme of internet searches!)

What's the model of the meter? I'll try to have a better look later on, but it would help to know exactly which one you're using.

I'm not a Linux expert, but I tried wine and a VM but couldn't get them to work with the meter.
Both of these seem to want a Linux driver before they will use the USB the meter is attached to, but the driver is a USB<>com. And there seems no way to tell the windows software (smart log) to use the Linux com port instead of its own USB<> com driver.

The meter is a Caresens N, they are really common in NZ but not so much elsewhere.
I'm sure someone has sorted this, probably in NZ, but I could not find anything that downloads the data to a local harddrive.

Any NZ'ers know what is used on linux? @EllieM, @AloeSvea

I've just had another look and can't see any dedicated reading sw, I've also had a quick look at support for USB drivers under WINE. I think it very much depends what type of USB device the device appears as, but I'm not filled with hope for an easy fix there. One suggestion I see is to run Windows in a VM under Linux, which is certainly an option, though probably quite a slow and painful one depending on what your machine is.

Tidepool offer an uploader which runs within the Chrome webbrowser, so there's a faint hope it might work. They only offer an app for Windows/Mac (https://support.tidepool.org/hc/en-...eSens-N-Premier-Dual-N-Plus-BT-Pro-or-N-Meter), but on GitHub there are instructions for Linux (though it looks slightly complicated and from the bug tracker it doesn't work perfectly): https://github.com/tidepool-org/uploader/issues/1625

Other than that I'm afraid I'm out of suggestions, sorry!

Sorry linux isn't my area of expertise but I agree as caresens is the only publically funded meter here there is a good chance someone may know how to access it.

You can use it with an app on your phone if that helps (but expect you already know this @Matrix)

Besides the application seems to be a conduit between the meter and their cloud platform, you must be connected to the web when running it. It seems to be aimed at providing processed patient data to health professionals. I'm not sure the patient can get the raw data.

Thanks @EllieM, it was worth a try. I just thought you might know of someone who uses Linux. The Caresens N doesn't have BlueTeeth so a mobile isn't a solution.

Sorry about that. I use the Dual which tests ketones as well as bg and I think does.... As a LADA you might be entitiled to one that also tests for ketones ?

It is mainly for that purpose, but there is also an export function on the Profile page.
