Hi, i'm Alicia, i'm 22 and i've had Type 1 Diabetes for about 12 years now. When I was 16 I was diagnosed with CFS and then for about 2 years now i've had some problems with my kidneys (Not diabetes related). I was just wondering about other peoples experiences with having diabetes as well as another condition and how this effects your bloods or life in general?

Is you have an auto immune disease like Type 1 Diabetes you are more likely to get other auto immune diseases like thyroid disease. Even as a Type 2 I have had a hyperactive thyroid which meant my metabolism was fast and my diabetic medication was not staying in the system long enough and so higher blood sugar levels.

Yeah, one of my diabetic friends has celiac and another with lupus :(

Chronic spinal arthritis.
Recurring Spondylolisthesis. (Spine)
Benign tumours on spinal cord. Benign but very painful.
Benign tumours on cauda equine. Very troublesome. (Spine)
Benign tumours on sacral nerves. (spine)
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. (COPD)
Asthma.
I'm falling apart!!!

I have Hashimoto's, Addisons disease and LADA (all related). I also osteoarthritis in my hands, feet, hips and back...and i keep thinking if this is nearly 60 what will nearly 70 be like? Talk about an old crock!

Had (well technically still have) Graves Disease though they nuked my Thyroid with Radioactive Iodine Therapy so now under active thyroid.
T1 is my second longer term Autoimmune issue, specialist did look at my history once and thought she saw a couple other things in my past that may have been others.

Waiting to see if I get to expand my collection.

Apart from Immune do you ever think they are related like your body doesn't have the defence so just lets anything in? I am allergic to a lot of animals, asthma, hayfever the usual kinda of group related things? I just feel I know people either with one thing, nothing or about a billion!!!

Well it makes you wonder doesnt it? But there's generally someone worse off than me so I count my blessings :-)

I think my central nervous system problems may be vaccine related. Still working on it. I reckon my T2 was triggered by statins.

I've been T1d for 53 years, now on a pump and just getting used to it but it's fantastic. I have had retinopathy since 1976, macula degeneration,I've now been told I have Retinitis Pigmentosis which also i am told eats away at your retina. UnderactivThyroud, CHD, (coronaty heart disease) PBC ( Primary Billiard Cholongitus ) Osteo-arthritis, Osteoporosis, Neuropathy, I dread either going to see my GP or my consultants at the hospital as I always seem to walk away with something different from what I already have and i've just a couple of other things but I think I've said enough already. We all seem to suffer one way or another, don't we?

Hi, i've had T1 since 23 years old, now 41 and although i've looked after myself have also suffered from autonomic nervous system failure, various issues there, retinopathy, only in one eye, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and just very recently twisted my ankle which has triggered chacot foot, what joy! apart from that all is ok :)
