Anything other than Statins?

I refused to take statins, my GP said it was my decision, do my research and if I change my mind let him know.
I have just told my G.P the same thing.

This might be useful to some here. Most of the time (in the UK anyway) ldl isn't measured, it's calculated eg using the Friedewald Formula. The link above allows you to put in your own figures but also to adjust them slightly to see how things change.

Yeah I think each individual is different. In your case it sounds like you need them. I'm 31 and they tried to give me statins when I was 29. I said no because my cholesterol is in the okay range and hadn't ever been high but out of curiosity I decided to try and lower it even more by myself and I did :) I cut back on cheese and relaced normal butter with the benecol one.
Same here a lot less cheese, normal butter and benecol drink. Will know next check up if its brought it down a bit

I hope it's worked for you too :)
I was taking the benecol drinks but the price went up so much that I refuse to buy them. They do a cheaper version in tesco but I think they have aspartame in so I stay clear of those now.

That’s just probably answered a question for me, I get really painful cramps in my lower legs that are so painful I can hardly move. 10/10 on the pain scale but doctor has always said it’s nothing to worry about and sent me on my way! I guess I should talk about trying a different statin
Am I wrong, you started a thread about neuropathy, having pains in feet and travelling up the leg?

It is ridiculous the price but I try and get them when on offer. I try and stay clear of sugar free stuff when I can. I get tummy problems and a lot of throat irritation from sweetener's. Here's hoping the benecol work for the price !

I was prescribed statins last week, at the same time I was prescribed Metformin. From what the diabetic nurse was saying it sounds like they now prescribe statins to ever male my age (55) - even if they come in for something unrelated. From reading the documents and the side effects I've decided to hold off on starting them until I've been on the Metformin for a while and hopefully my blood sugar is better controlled - as one of the statin I was prescribed's side effects can be to raise blood sugar.
