People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
So, my darling husband at 51 years old died two weeks ago.

Unexpected, although we had concerns the heart specialist we paid privately told us 8 weeks he statitics worked out to having 95% chance of living until he was 85.

Moving on:

The NHS do offer males 64/65 to have aortic scans. Patients are not routinely called in to have these done. Makes have to actually request them.
Please get all male relatives 64 or okder that havent had them done to get them done.

For people younger with concerns you can ask for a scan anyway (we werent aware of this) and paid privately to see a heart consultant who did nt think there was any concern. We had used dr goigle and thought my husband higher day/night diastolic rate was a concern that his blood was not exiting his heart correctly.

I'm not wishing to have any expressed condolences.

My husband died because of mistakes by ambulance, taken to wrong hospital and being dumped in a corridor for 3 hours without any person seeing at all and nothing being done.

Please, no condolences. Plese get male loved ones checked

If you have a heart hospital centre of excellence.. on your doorstep. Dont let an ambulance man with an irregular heart himself decide that your husband has the same so he only needs a check over at a secondary (disgusting A&E care) hospital.

Thank you.

I just want all of us to ensure we are aware that scan are there to save lives (normally).

I never want anybody to go through the hell that my husband did for 91/2hours in which he could have been saved...

Mr Chris was called in for an ultra sound when he was 65 & went along. It’s very simple & non invasive so yes, get it done.
Sorry to hear the care your husband got wasn’t up to standard

I’ll tell everyone I know that this scan is available. Thank you for sharing this, @donellysdogs, I had no idea this was available. At least something good may come of your poor husband’s bad treatment!

Bless you @donnellysdogs for bringing this to everyone's attention at a difficult time for you.

The aorta scan is simple, ultra sound, takes a few minutes. Results / risk of problem given immediately. Despite having loss two people dear to us with aorta aneurism the first we knew of screening for men age 65 was when a family member was invited for a scan.

I would add that if a problem is found on the scan, regular monitoring takes place so that there can be intervention should that be deemed necessary.

It lessens my angst to know that some CCGs are routinely calling in males.

Some like Cambridge and Peterborough CCG dont. Its down to the patients to realise and sort.

Quite a hard time for me, as I had pubblished details about this in our patient newsletter in January. I know from a different Practice I was involved with that by publishing details in a local magazine it saved somebodys life.

My husband died of aortic dissection and haemothorax. Slightly different to an aneurysm but still vitally important as I certainly wasnt aware of dissection-only aneurysm which my best pal died of at 58.. again too young for nhs to scan.

I am heartbroken and so angry as my husband, we paid privately and we ate healthy and we even used dr google to look and Dr google made ys aware that there could be a problem with blood exiting the heart. Nobody gave a **** either privately or NHS. My husbands life could have been saved. He could be sat with me now.

Please everybody-just be aware. Xx

Dd, when I read about that scan, something clicked in my head.
My dad died at 46, with what I thought was a heart attack at home. There was something that I remembered what was on his death certificate. It bugged me so much that I spoke to my older brother a few minutes ago.
My brother confirmed that was what dad had in fact died from, the hospital funnily enough where the post mortum was done, was at addenbrookes. At that time, mum and dad were living in Newmarket.
Both my brothers were called in to be scanned etc. They were 23 and 20 at the time. My older brothers scan was ok but from then on, he goes yearly to be checked on at Papworth.
However my younger brother at the time was 20, his scanned showed problems and he was called in for surgery.
So I do urge males at 65 to get that checked. Even young male adults can be at risk, though it's rare

Thank you @ally1 for raising awareness as well with your family details.

A dissection is supposedly rare!! However it is amazing that I have heard so many close friends of mine that have lost their loved ones. Its making me realise it isnt quite so rare as reported. Unless of course its a problem for those living on the east of england area!!

I am personally disgusted that my husband was left on a trolley with absolutely no treatment for 3 hours. If he had been taken to the centre of excellence heart hospital a stones throw from us, he would have stood a chance, instead of no chance.

The ambukanceman that deemed that my hubby had an irregular heart like the ambulanceman and therefore only needed a check up is still working.....
The two females with him, hopefully wont listen to that ambulanceman again and next time will follow the detailf of the ECG's and take the next patient to the right hospital.

Thanks @ally1 for your family experiences...
thinking of you.. xx

The diastolicis the bottom rate when you look at the two figures. For 2 years my husbsnds diastolic rate was always 90-100. It didnt lower at night.....it was permanently stuck higher 24/7. the top systolic rate at night dipped and although was at times too high when he was at work it lowered when he slept.
The carsdiologist at Papworth told us that "not to worry"-the diastolic will naturally lower at age of 55. Its only the systolic rate at 51 that they worry about....

All that was needed was a quick ultrasound aorta scan. Their are a few ways to check for aorta dissection. Various scans but sadly hospitals and consultants failed my husband.

More concerned that men know about aorta scans.

Apparently there are two types of aorta dissection-chronic or acute... symptoms vary accordingly.

I'm just worried that males get checked properly. Well also that people get taken to right hospital as well.....

Even in say,Northamptonshire.. one hospital does strokes, the other heart attacks.

We have Papworth on our doorstep and he never got taken to the heart hospital...

My dad died back in 1983. So I would say then, possibly rare.
I do now feel that it's more common nowadays

Just hope @ally1 that "rare" is so, but I dont think it is nowadays.

Too many people around me have tales of dissection and not aneurysm.

My husband did suffer and it should never have been like this.. never..

I totally agree with you. I feel that all men should be tested regardless of age.

Thank you so much for sharing this vital information, dd - I will be making my husband, other family members and male friends aware of this today. It does seem likely, as you and @ally1 have said, that what was a rare condition may be becoming more common, or perhaps it wasn’t so rare in the first place - simply undiagnosed.

Although I never met your husband, it makes me very angry to think of the lack of care he received and the suffering he must have endured as a result. I know that you are an incredibly strong person, even after all you have been through with your own health issues, but it must have taken every ounce of that strength for you to get through the last few devastating weeks. And yet you have still taken time to share this vitally important information with others, despite your own pain and grief.

My heart goes out to you, dd, and I hope the love and support of those you care about will bring you through this dark time to a place where you can find some peace. Sending you big hugs.

Now 67....food for thought.
Last Tuesday my wife age 65 thought she had heartburn and got GP prescriptions for it. That evening she took a heart attack, I called for an ambulance but a paramedic fast responder called in 20 mins and she had a further attack. Defibrillator applied and ambulance arrived. Further 3 Attacks en route to hospital, then 6 more attacks in hospital where stint was inserted. The artery into the RHS of heart had been completely blocked causing heart attack. We were to fly to Lanzarote 2 days later!
Thankfully she is recovering well at home.
Very fortunate indeed.
Thanks for your warning
Love Paul

Even to go to coroners hearing I have been informed I shouldd have solicitor/barrister!! This isnt litigation to sue, just to get coroners "no blame" verdict of death..

Hospital failed as well since with duty of candour.

The hell of all this is indescribable. I am a fighter but I truly pity anyone with less ability facing events line this.

Thank you everyone. Just get selves/family/friends aware...
