Are there any new products you would like to see?

Being a product designer are there any new products you think could help people with type 1 diabetes or any ideas in which you would like to see on the market for people to buy? Leave a comment below :)
 
Although many of the blood glucose meter manufacturers do a case for the meter, finger pricker and bg strips to fit into, these type of cases are not that easy to use unless the case is put flat on a table or a seat and they are a bit on the big side to carry about in a bag. Ideally, the strips could be produced in foil which would enable the case to be more compact and lighter and finger prickers could be a tiny bit smaller and less noisy when the click sounds.

I think lots of diabetics would love a bg meter that could slide into a mobile phone type wallet with elastic sides and a clear front so that the meter buttons could be pressed without taking the meter out of the wallet and the finger pricker could be directly next to the meter and not really visable. Test strips in a very small container at the top. This would enable diabetics do be able to do a bg test wherever they might be...... on a train, bus, walking around the shops.
 
An integrated meter smaller than the streamlined Accu Chec Mobile but with the addition of a keypad or touchscreen and sim slot for mobile phone capability. Oh, and a camera and memory slot too.

My strips are individually wrapped in foil. Means I got 50 in with my meter fairly compactly
 
Hi Stark .

Some 'funky' slimeline cases to carry all our kits in ?
Or even a case for both genders male/female trendy friendly .

I like the kiddies funkier pen range and wish they would do similar for us adults .
Make things MORE fun to look at and use :thumbup:

Plain pens/cases DO look a bit clinical and boring :thumbdown:

Intrinsically safe test meters and insulin pumps, or covers to make existing pumps suitable for those of us working in hazardous industries.
 
Shorter versions of the insulin pump cannula: the shortest I know of (for the Animas Vibe) is 6mm, but a 4mm or 5mm would be better for the direct insert types (i.e. 90 degrees to the skin).

Also, a new type of cannula material would be good: I find that my skin often reacts to the nylon version after only 18 hours during hot weather.

It would also be more cost effective - and better environmentally - if the cannula and tubing were all of the same design and packaged separately... I seem to be wasting metres of the tubing every time a cannula insertion goes wrong or needs early changing because of skin reactions.

Oh yes, and also, an insulin pump that accepts a pre-loaded insulin cartridge... I'm fed up with air bubbles!!! :x
 
I would like to have kind of timer on my insulin pen so i would know what time was my last injection. And nice small case would be good too
 
Hi I would like a smaller more compact version of the accu check mobile device, it's so much better without strips but could be smaller and be in funky colours and in a funky case.
Also if the injection pen was made slightly smaller even if this was for days out when you want to eat out more discreet.
 
How about carrying cases? what sort of carrying cases would you like to see and what would you like to have in the carrying case?

A kind of test strip container or packaging that enables you to put strip in monitor without touching it or contaminating it. This should hopefully lead to more accurate results. Also, there are plenty of choices of bags for ladies but not much for the guys !

Thank you everyone for all your input! Its really appreciated , im focusing on a product which holds everything you need , what sort of items would you like to be included on the device?

Before I got my iBGstar meter (which attaches to the base of my iPhone), it used to really bug me having to carry a bulky case for the meter and all it's bits, but with no room to hold my insulin pens as well. A compact carrier to hold the lot would have been useful. Also carriers with a bit more life about them, look a little more funky or fun.

I don't like carrying a handbag with me, but have to in order to bring my diabetic stuff with me. If I'm being a little more active I wear a bumbag.
 
A mini sharps box or container that could hold a couple of used needles/lancets/test strips when out for the day would be good, till I could get home and empty it into the proper one. Something not obvious though.
 
I watched a programme last night called "Monitor Me" in which a Californian had a little "wire" implant just under the skin which continuously monitored his BG. The numbers could be accessed 24 hrs a day on an app. No need for hand held monitors, expensive test strips etc. I'd like one of those please.
