Are we the 'chosen'?

See..that's where we differ...when I was very young one one of them told me I was going to Hell. After you, Father O'Hearty.
Yes. Those old fashioned priests were scary. They used to frighten me. This young ex rockband curate was very with it. God rest his soul he is dead now too but opened my eyes. For which I'll be forever grateful. I'm sure fr mc is in rockband heaven! :) :) :)

If 'certain' people are chosen, then why them, why was my 2 1/2 year granddaughter diagnosed with type 1 as I watched her in hospital fight for her life to live, there are many, many questions that just cannot be answered ? We all have a life to lead and we have to deal with the cards that are dealt to us from the day we are born and throughout our lives. We are on this planet a very short time.

Right now, my heart goes out to Manchester, RIP :(

So sad, children caught up in it! Devastating news... Heart goes out to all the families.

Yes. We all have a pre-planned life with lots of influences.
The way I can cope with loved ones dying is to realise I and others need their help more when they can influence are spiritual needs. We need support in all quarters not just medical intervention.
Short lives are more than chosen. I feel their short lives have influenced so much in their time and their spirit can help more from above.
We all have our place in this world.
A jigsaw puzzle piece. We must fit our surroundings. We reshape ourselves to fit in with others but some pieces are more fitting else where.
We have no choice over which shape we are started from but we can influence a little in fitting in with other puzzle pieces or islands in our full picture puzzle.
Some people don't want to compromise (be flexible) hence some have to bend more to cover for their inflexibility. A harder job.
So no life isn't a box of chocolates.

It's a huge billion piece jigsaw puzzle and we are just trying our best to find our belonging and where we fit in better!
Some are larger pieces than others. Some more flexible than others. Some stunted and some more gifted.

We are all chosen!!! To complete the puzzle!

A nephew of ours my wife's brother;s son has CF was he chosen you might say so or you could just accept that it is the unfortunate consequence of both his parents carrying the CF Gene.My wife's cousin's boy died at age 22 of complications of CF was he also chosen and for what purpose? I don't know. I do know our nephew is making the most of his time here just as we all should living his life to the fullest.

Or in a rock band in heaven...I hope Black Sabbath are forgiven when its their time - too much Cliff Richard would have me heading for the exit.

Hi John, these are difficult questions. I find it very hard to believe that a universe (this one anyway) did not have a theistic originator. At the same time it is a universe of infinite possibilities because it is a change and decay system. Part of our reason for being is to reduce suffering. It is hard to see how a just deity would plan suffering and the deaths of young children. I think it is a result of our change and decay world/universe and its infinite possibilities. If we have faith or are humanist, good men and women desire to alleviate pain and suffering in our fellow creatures. This is my theodicy (to use a fancy theological word) and our reason for being. regards Derek
