I was looking at the latest glossy Asda Magazine today containing lots of recipes and meal ideas....

It did not take me long to realise that most of the recipes and meal ideas, were not suitable for my healthy diabetic lifestyle

So earlier today I emailed the magazine editor and suggested they try doing recipes and meal ideas for type 2 diabetics.
I have not heard back from them yet, but I will let you all know if I do. :D
I did not mention I follow a low carb lifestyle, so if they do try foods for type 2 diabetics; it will be interesting to see what they print.

Given the amount of press reporting about how many of us there are you would think the supermarkets would take notice that a not insignificant number of their customers are diabetic.

I hope you have better luck than I did some time ago with Tesco.

I hope you have better luck than I did some time ago with Tesco - Hobs.

I don't think it is likely to be any different somehow,
I filled in their questionaire regarding a slimming regime and stated that I did NOT EVER use the frozen meals. When the resulting diet came through it included at least two ar three instant meals per week! lol :?:

I filled in Tesco's and they refused me a diet plan and told me to consult my GP as I had a condition that needed monitoring    - doesn't stop them spamming me with emails everyday on how to lose 3st in a fortnight!

Why should they be aimed at diabetics though? It's a magazine for the general population and the majority of them are not diabetic.

It's always nice to have a feature on diabetes/ diabetes friendly recipes to raise public awareness but half the time they get it wrong anyway

I have recieved a reply from Asda Magazine

Now I will wait to see if they do a small topic on diabetes and suitable foods. :D

I am delighted to read that you enjoy reading the magazine and you love making the recipes. However, I am sorry to read that you are unable to eat some of them with you suffering from diabetes.

I have passed your comments onto our marketing team for their information and future consideration.

Once again, thanks for contacting us and if I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to get back in touch.

Plus ca change...
Nut allergy? Fine. Lactose intolerant? Fine. Gluten intolerant? Fine... etc etc plenty of products for these unfortunates... but I bet there are more customers with DM so why hasn't the penny dropped and they start offering comparable products to the victims of the modern plague?
I suspect it is impractical... or when they do it will be bogus. 8)

TBH, I don't see a problem really.......I shop at most of the major supermarket's and have never found a problem with any foods. I shop caredully, read the labels, buy fresh produce wherever possible and certainly don't have a problem finding real Diabetic friendly healthy food to eat. Food that is lower in carbs and also fats which I try to limit. The trouble is there are many Diabetic's who don't need to restrict carbs etc, so what might be good for me.....just wouldn't do for many others.

As for recipes in magazines etc, I just look for the alternative ingredients I could use which still allow me to control my Bg numbers. I don't ever look at Diabetic 'friendly' recipes or foods any more as they are almost always high carb meals whatever the 'blurb' says ! Check out the DUK recipe section for so called Diabetic friendly recipes, it's been highlighted here before. If the meal is high carb and I cannot reduce it by using an alternative ingredient......I just avoid that meal. I still have plenty of choice though.

Hey Ken... here we are again, the voice of reason.
However..... busy people might like a 'safer' convenient option even if it is just something relabelled. We don't always have the time and would be a help.

From the supermarket's side they could charge more for it! 8)
